Is this too high?

Nosher is one smart man

Since I don't eat lots of food I do buy high quality food. Wild Alaskan fish, organic veggies , grass fed meat and organic poultry. At the very least hormone and antibiotic free. I have a wide variety of green veggies and salad greens as well as proteins and fats. I also have a variety of nuts and seeds. Not sure which nutrients I might be missing.

Perhaps my grains and dairy or high carb foods? I'll take my chances....

Your right, I don't eat processed rubbish, as natural as possible.
I'm not sure I know where I get my nutrients from either.
Maybe I can just survive on protein and salad veg, eggs (lots) and small portions of other foods, such as soups, curry, stews and the like. Nuts, for bread a piece of Bergen, full fat Greek yogurt and chocolate, also small pieces of fruit throughout the day, that's it!
I just can't eat most foods.
I think my body has adapted itself to very low carb because of what carbs do to me and how I've applied my mindset to get myself well again. Or bloody minded as the case may be.

If I was smart I wouldn't have to work for a living!

Personally I would ignore this website because it's not for diabetics or blood glucose disorders.

Nosher, I'm struggling to understand where you're coming from. In my view, it's just another tool, like MyFitnessPal which is an easy way to track a food diary and keep an eye on carb (or whatever) consumption. That it might be able to carb and calorie count a whole Black Forrest gateau or a mega, maxi sized pizza doesn't mean anyone has to or would ever even see that foodstuff.

I haven't looked at the site in detail yet, but for easy tracking of nutrition, what would you recommend?

Personally myfitnessplan.
I would personally recommend bloodsugar101.com

Perhaps it's just me!

No worries.

My fitness pal can be way off. I found it was best to get a food scale and weigh my own food until I got used to eyeing portion sizes. I still weigh protein to this day . it also showed me how little portions of food were high carb and should be scratched off the menu
Then I used calorie king for macro content ant nutritional data.com for nutrients as well as double checking calorie kings accuracy.

So, what are the differences between this suggestion and MFP that make it a reject but MFP an acceptable solution?

@Kristin251 - I agree MFP can be off, but like any tool it needs to be used when awake.

I found the scale to be best. Very surprising 1 broccoli or cauliflower floret is 1 carb. Makes a big difference when staying under 20 a day.
I also like nutritional dats for vitamins minerals and omega fats. I found cLorie King quite accurate and I would take the portion I felt I wanted, weigh it and then figure if I want more or less or if it just wasn't worth the trouble for the measly amount

Tes. Have you ever heard of the blood type diet? I followed it and still do 85%. I found it helpful with weight loss, hormones and digestion. It's based on lectins and how they disrupt our genes and metabolism. If you know your blood type and are interested I can give you a brief synopsis. Very easy to incorporate with low carb even though it is not even close to low carb.
How is your digestion? If my tummy isn't happy nothing's good. Hormones, sleep, moods etc. and I would never lose an ounce. Keeping my stomach happy is paramount.

Nosher, I agree again, I can't eat most foods either. I have the least problems with protein and fats. I need to watch veggie portions. And meals need to be small. It's funny that the bigger I eat the hungrier I am. I can be bloated and stuffed and looking for more food. I spent enough time in that condition and am not interested anymore.

I'm never hungry and I have to have small meals.
I had half a roast chicken for my dinner last night, and I struggled to finish the leg. I hated the grazing for carbs. I still think I'm eating too much as my weight loss has really slowed. But I have to eat!
I fast intermittently, and that gives me a rest from food.
But, working full time, I have to eat, when working.
Having to eat regularly throughout the day is a right pain but something I have to plan and shop for.
No one said it was easy, my life has never been like that.
So, I just get on with it and it's not going to beat me.
It's where I am, get on with it!

I am writing down what I am eating on a food diary, but not weighing or measuring anything. I might try a tracker if I struggle, so thank you for the links everyone, I will take a look at all three.
I am in ketosis, my sticks came today... My BS today have been good today too. With 7.7 when getting up a 6.8 at breakfast and every other reading has been below 6, before and after eating. Even got my lowest at 4.4 and to think a week ago I was hyperglycaemic.
Amazing what diet can do in just a week.
Not sure on the carb flu thing because I have an actual sore throat... So wouldn't be able to tell the difference I don't think.
About 5 years ago I did a diet where I had food replacement packs and no food for 6 months. When I went into ketosis then I got so unwell, on day 2 I felt so sick and my head hurt so bad. I haven't had any of that this time. I do feel tired like i did last time... But I have been tired a while now, and have put it down to the diabetes.
Kristin, the quiche was crust less, and yum!
I don't know anything about the blood type diet. I would love to hear about it... I'm A- negative.
My digestion is slow, but good I think. I don't get very much wind at all. And don't get indigestion often.
my sleep and moods are mostly good...

My only comment on the food diary would be that MyFitnessPal (and probably all the others too), allow you to run reports. As well as seeing your average consumption a of carbs, protein, calories, or whatever, it allows you to quickly pinpoint when you last ate a particular thing. This can be really useful if you have an unexpected reading on your meter.

If you had a reading of, say 10 (doesn't matter what the number is. It could be high or low), you can look to see when you last ate the same thing, and compare the matching blood score.

It's just useful, but you have to work it how you feel most comfortable.

Nosher, do you have gastroparisis? Do you mean you ate half the. Hi men but couldn't finish the leg or could barely eat the leg?

Tess most blood type A's do best on more of a vegetarian type diet lower in protein and the proteins should be lighter such as light fish, eggs etc and in small portions. Not real high fat either. A's tend to have low stomach acid
The worst foods for you are that will promote weight gain are red meat, all dairy, kidney and Lima beans and wheat
Foods you should eat often to speed metabolism are vegetable oils , vegetables and pineapple but you can't have that , too bad haha, me either.
You should focus small amounts of chicken, turkey, Cornish hens, cod, mackerel, trout, salmon, sardine, perch, tuna. Avoid catfish, crab, shrimp, lobster , haddock and some other weird fish.

Avoid all dairy

Good news is peanut butter and peanuts are medicine as well as pumpkin seeds. Avoid Brazil cashew and pistachio. Other nuts and seeds are ok

Some legumes are good but too high carb

Best veggies are broccoli book hoy cauliflower celery fennel lettuce portabella shiitake enoki mushrooms green olives and green onions radishes Brussels sprouts watercress zucchini.
Avoid cabbage eggplant Lima beans white mushrooms black and kalamata olives all kinds of peppers potatoes of all kinds tomato

Fruit list is long but fruits are carby. Eat avocado. Avoid banana coconut mango melons oranges papayas rhubarb tangerines.

Sounds crazy I know but it really helped me gain my health back. I had very bad digestion and it was greatly improved within days.
I am an O so a meat eater and low carb but my mom is an A and says a lot of the foods she shouldn't eat ( but still does) make her feel bad.
Worth a shot. It's more a matter of swapping some foods for different ones I think the same family. The book is in most libraries and book stores as it was a best seller for over 20 years. Or the website is www.dadamo.com. You can read about type A's and see if it applies to you.

Food replacements sound awful. I've never tried them but assume they are full of junk. That would make me feel awful too. Oh are you talking like slim fast? I'd die in a day. Lol

The diet I did was lighter life, same type of thing as slim fast except you have no meals at all... 4 packs that come to 500-ish calories a day. They contain with in the 4 100% of what your body needs... After a about 3 weeks when the tiredness went I felt great, the weight went quickly and I was feeling better by the minuet. When I came off the packs though I maintained for a few months and then got myself a very unhealthy addiction to chocolate. When I say addiction I mean that in a strong way. I replaced meals with chocolate, eating 3-4 family bars per day plus other rubbish. I would eat it till I felt sick and chew gum for a while to settle my stomach and eat more. If I didn't have any I was fidget and be frustrated. I think I was on a continuous sugar high. I gained 9 stone in 7 months eating that way before my body said NO! Losing and gaining the weight so fast has left me with gaull stones. I started to get gaull bladder attacks, they were so painful. I saw a surgeon who said I needed my gaull bladder removed but he didn't want to do it at my current weight... Most of my fat is round my middle. He said the operation would be dangerous and because of the amount of fut unluckily to be key hole, meaning recovery would go from 2-3weeks to 6-8 months.
So it was decided that It be left and I was to have a lower fat intake. I get the odd niggle now and again but haven't had a full attack in ages. I did however cut my chocolate consumption to none for ages, it did creap back in again but never to a level that was as before. I tried the food replacement diet again about a year ago, after 5 days it caused an attack so couldn't do it. I don't know if what I am doing now will effect it or not. I hope not because my bloods every day are getting lower. Even today's morning reading was low (for me) infact it's in the pre-diabetes level... And almost normal :) 5.9 yay go me!

Most of the things you have mentioned in the list for blood types I don't like. I am a very faddy eater. The only fish I eat is cod. I'm not big on beef but have it now and again. Don't like lamb. Turkey is ok... Love chicken and pork. I'm not sure I'll be able to do the blood type diet for A if you have to lower protein and dairy... Already cut out carbs. Not sure you can live on olive oil and cucumber lol. I suppose it's ok if your not a diabetic And you can eat the carbs.

I am guessing that it's my faddy eating that's got me where I am now... I'm sorry body.
Right now I'm focuses on changing... and have been in that mindset for a few months now with the weight loss... And a little over a week with the carbs or lack of. I never knew what an effect they had.

No!

I have no health problems except RH!

A far cry from five years gone!

I do like slimming world and before being diagnosed I have lost almost 2 stone.
I still plan on doing slimming world, but cutting out carbs. Since getting the glucose meter and knowing that for me not even low GI carbs are ok my levels have lowered. 6.3 being my lowest today and 9.1 my highest. Not great, but so much better than the 12's and 13's at the start of the week. I'm hoping that as blood tests showed in March I was inculin resistant and 4 weeks later I had just crossed that boarder to type 2, I can hit the weight loss, dieting/low carbs and cross back into the resistant stage and then back to health. The proactive approach.
Yes many diabetics do have good results with Slimming World weight lost and good BG levels although it is fairly low fat but obviously high fat is not good for you with your gall bladder problem so if it works for you then go for it.
A lot of people think that all those types of diets like Slimming World are all about ready made meals but my daughter does SW and says it is more about cooking meals from scratch and she uses their recipes...she is not diabetic but some members in her group are..

Yes in my opinion SW is one of the better diet plans for weight loss. It has only just recently started doing its own branded meals and every one is made from fresh ingredients none of these ingredients you have no idea what they are. Every pack has the recipe on the packet so you can make it yourself from scratch if you wanted too. Other than that it's all about healthy choices. Our leader always says fresh is best. If followed it does work for weight loss. I am not following it now the way most would as I have cut out carbs rich foods... I am using the "syn" allowance on my fats to make sure my body is getting what it needs. So more of the SP slimming world plan only upping the fats I eat. Only time will tell if this approach will work. So far it's doing wonders for my weight loss and glucose levels. :)

Spoke too soon last night when I was saying I have had no carb flu symptoms, today I have that dull headache between the eyes that just won't go and I feel like i haven't slept. Lol thought it was too good to be true! Lasted about 2 days last time, so I'm just gonna ride that ride :)
