I am new to this site . I thought it would be a good idea to join since I have no one I am close to that has diabetes . My father is a type 2 diabetic but lives far away and I do not like to burden him with my struggles. I am the one who made the rant about diabetes that has seemed to upset almost everyone who has read it . Honestly, I thought I might have some support from people who also may have some similar experiences as me . Maybe someone would get a chuckle. The one place I thought I would get some support it seems to be the last place I getting it from . I do want to to thank those few who showed support as I very very much appreciate it . It was my own personal rant and not directed at anyone in particular. I think deleting would help calm the natives here since they seem to be so opposed . Such a very common story for me as a type 1 . Suck it up.. Don't talk about it !!! Very sad.

Edit* I decided to leave it up and not delete it . There are a lot of people who contributed to that forum and I don't want to remove those contributions.

I actually enjoyed reading your rant. I can relate to many points and it made me laugh. Sorry maybe I should have commented over there, but I stopped following the post when I saw some arguments. That never ending arguments between type1s and type2s are pointless. Excuse me my language but we are all in the ****

Unfortunately ... the arguments have continued, it was my first post and I believe It is partly my fault for putting it in the wrong location. I have learned to stay in the correct area for now :D thanks

I believe we all have different outlook on diabetes depending on our personal experiences. I had completely different attitude shortly after diagnosis. Now, after few years, when things are getting tougher its very different. Few scary hypos and A&E visits with ketones managed to do a 'good' job. I dread to think whats going to happen in few years....
After all your experiences you have a right for a little rant :)

Anaelena, I am saddened and maddened to read your post, you have done nothing wrong and not at fault. I have posted on the mentioned thread and have read the comments. It doesn't matter what type a member is, they are entitled to post their feelings and with their experiences too.
Type 2 diabetics have their say about so many things. Attitudes towards them, not getting testing strips, the NHS food guidelines, GP's, DSN's, weight problems, the media too. Do others berate them for ranting about something that annoys them or upsets them, I would like to say no, as it is still diabetes but managed in a different way.
It is unfair when the smaller amount % of diabetic members on here want to have a moan and bad feeling comes to the surface, I cannot understand it at all, it's unnecessary and uncalled for.
What will happen then, will some members be too scared or anxious to post anything in case of 'a them against us attitude' fragile members who really need help, advice and support, I sincerely hope not.
What ever the type, It can be good to have a rant or a moan about diabetes, If we can't do it on a diabetes forum, then where ? :(
Regards and best wishes RRB

I appreciate that very much . As a new member yes I will hesitate to post anything. Just like this post I must choose my words wisely as I am sure someone will find this objectionable. I posted that rant initially as a Type 1 but after the first response I quickly changed it to just" diabetic" after that I changed it from "type 1", to a " diabetic", to me " personally"because others said it did not apply to all diabetics either , then I was told that we don't have it soo bad , it could be worse , then I was told to get on with it because others seems to think I have not , then I was told I am making a forum about a person who cannot defend herself . So you tell me ? There are those there that say they have a right to express their opinion, I never once told anyone they did not as I am aware a forum is public and that is the expectation. What I cannot understand up until this point is why MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS A TYPE 1 bothers anyone? People who are offended can be offended but that will not change my experience.

Hi Anaelena

I didn't post on your original thread as I saw it getting a bit heated and quite frankly I couldn't be bothered wading through all the replies. What I would like to say is yes, being any kind of diabetic would be a pain but there is no doubt in my mind that being Type 1 would be far worse .... apart from all the farting around with insulin, hypos, constant testing etc. most Type 1's are diagnosed in childhood as opposed to most Type 2's who are diagnosed later in life - at least they know life well before diabetes. I feel so much for the parents of young diabetic children who post on here. A lady recently posted of her young teenage boy who refused to take his insulin and was eating the wrong foods ... it's hard enough being the parent of a non-diabetic teenager let alone one who is diabetic.

I didn't really know anything much about diabetes until I found this site so the general population would be pretty ignorant about it unless they had come across it in family or friends, hence their thoughtless comments.

So at the risk of causing more upset, I think type 1's have a lot more to complain about and suffer with than type 2's. I am at risk of LADA and type 2 also .... but at least I have educated myself enough to know what I can do to reverse my insulin resistance and preserve my beta cells as much as possible. Those diagnosed with Type 1 are not afforded the privilege.

@Anaelena You have done absolutely nothing wrong!! This is the one place you should be able to write what you feel and I for one loved your rant.

I could write a few rants myself but due to the majority of it being expletives, I doubt there would be much point lol.

I think that some of the people on here need to seriously grow up and get a grip. We are all diabetic and should all be aware of the struggles to some degree that the others have faced.

Do NOT feel bad for having a rant, everybody does it.

Morning, I hope you slept well ?
Your original post :- Type 1 diabetes rant :). ( revised title ). DIABETES RANT. Hopefully this thread will be able to get back on track to addressing your original post.
It's a shame that a new person, yourself. who has talked about their own experiences with diabetes feels 'terribly sad' because of friction within the thread.
Also, if someone is offended or upset by a thread, then they can press the report button which notify's the moderating team.
I have a little story that I will post on the original thread, it happened a couple of months ago and it made my jaw drop to floor lol :rolleyes:so I will be brave and post. Have a good day all.
Best wishes RRB

Hi there, it's so very sad to hear that you having a "vent" on here has led to having a horrible experience. I did read through some of the comments on your original post but gave up as people got more and more heated, ridiculous really. Hopefully these lovely voices of reason on this particular thread will make you feel better about making any further posts..........(on the Type 1 forum ).

Personally i wish "they" would rename these two types of diabetes, might......just might stop all of this them and us stuff.

I don't think it did any harm at all. Plus, there is a theory about "team formation" in management studies that says new groups/teams go through three phases: Forming, Storming and Norming. So when a new member joins a group or team, or when a new group Forms, this is followed by a phase of Storm (as members work out between themselves what they accept as common values) until agreed values become the Norm (until the next new person comes along, or the project finishes, people go off to form new groups, teams, etc.)

So nothing unusual, wrong or bizarre happened. There was a public discussion of values, and such discussions can get a bit heated, but that's par for the course. Otherwise we would be the Stepford Diabetics.

Many years ago I went island hopping in Greece. One morning I went out to get breakfast. Grabbed some yogurt & placed it on the shop counter along with the drachma. (Greek currency at the time.)
The shop keeper looked up and said "satan?" Confused I just smiled. "SATAN!?" He shouted again.
I looked down trying to work out what he was referring to & realized I was wearing a tee shirt with Jerry Springer surrounded in flames holding a "cue card" with the word satan clearly written...
Ah, yes. I exclaimed "English joke" (humour?) Before I could elaborate further, the proprietor pulled out a twelve inch knife & waving it under my throat barked "Greek joke ehh!"
I replied with "maybe it got lost in the translation."
He grinned at my calm response, as it started to look like a "Mexican stand off" (only with a tee shirt & a bread knife.)

I only wanted yoghurt. Not rob the till. The tee shirt stayed at home when I realized it clashed culture with the Greek Orthodox Church.. ;)

No, please don't regret posting it. I honestly can't understand why some people got so annoyed about it. But see how many people agreed with you.

I do get why you feel you can't say exactly what you want though. Quite often in your thread I had to think and think in case anyone took offence at something innocent I wrote.

There was nothing wrong with your post - seriously. It was completely clear what it was about; you didn't have a go at Type 2s or devalue their experiences, so I can't see what the problem is.

I'm sure any of us could go round taking offence at any little thing Type 2s said if we were in that frame of mind. I could easily pick out innocent comments and take offence. I'm not going to though because I'm not that touchy. The Internet can cause misunderstandings so people are best not assuming the worst about comments. That's what I feel anyway.

Don't be sad about your previous post. I've just read through it all this morning and it did very get out of hand. It seemed it died down for days at a time and then flared up again.
Don't be detered from posting on the forum as it is a place where everyone can help each other out.

I didn't even see the post but if I had it would have been fine....rant away...that's what this place is about...somewhere to get advice, friendship and to vent your spleen whenever you feel the need. People react and bite back at posts and that's fine too....water off a ducks back springs to mind. It is discussion and inter action and doesn't have to be taken badly. Feel free to rant anytime you want to and always remember that for every single person that you maybe feel is not onside there are hundreds who are right there with you and understand only too well :)

Don't be so hard on yourself!

We all have problems and venting is a normal reaction!

I have started to do my rants in my blog, posters can read and leave a comment, but as far as my experience, no one has started disputing or disagreeing with my writings!

I've been known to rant on here.
Nothing wrong with it at all.
And I don't think I even bothered to respond to the first rant thread.

But it is my understanding that 1st thread was edited, because it had caused some people offence.

So saying that the currently displayed thread is non-offensive, is rather like saying that an adult graded film is ok for children once the sex, nudity and violence has been edited out.

Yes, I know that is an extreme example, but you get my drift...

I actually found the blog entries, so I'm new to all this blogging lol. As a blog is more hidden away and not on the big screen, so to speak, they may not have have as much impact on members, just a thought though :)
Take care.

I'm not sure who that comment was to, but in my post here at least, I was referring to the original post before it was edited. I read it early on pre-edit and was very surprised when some people found it offensive as it seemed like a normal rant to me - that is, a moan about diabetes from a personal level and in no way an attack on others or a denigration of their experiences.
