Just as a matter of interest...

Sorry to say it's the evening one for me :angelic: Having some coffee with cream in a morning fills me up all day, though that could change when I cut out dairy to drop some more fat soon. I had to ease into it though with a 16 hour and then 20 hour fasts over a few weeks before and now it's just routine for me.
How much coffee and cream do you take? What size mug / cup? Just wondering as I might give it a go.

I asked someone in Costa Coffee if they did bullit proof coffee but he said no but he had requests for coffee with butter.

Usually a standard sized mug (350ml) with one teaspoon of cream these days. Can up it to two if you're feeling especially hungry. Sometimes Costa does carry double/heavy cream so you could try asking for that.

Okay. Not as much cream as I imagined.

I don’t count but from broad knowledge of what my foods contain I would say somewhere between 10-20g. Sometimes effectively zero but that would be a rare day.

Sources are dairy and overground vegetables. Occasionally some macadamia nuts.

I no longer count as I can see from my plate what I have and I avoid most of the high carb foods. I don't eat rice or pasta or pastries. I do eat potatoes in very small quantities, and I have half a slice of Burgen bread a day, occasionally a full slice. They are my only sins. I am not a veggie fan and never have been. Sunday dinner is the only time I eat green veg. I do eat tons of mushrooms and some peas. The only fruits I eat are tomatoes (daily), and 2 or 3 strawberries or 6 or 7 raspberries, always with full fat Greek yogurt or cream, but not every day. No puddings or desserts at all other than the berries. No snacks. No nuts. No chocolate.

At the beginning of my journey I dropped my carbs gradually, ending up with about 30g a day. I am probably about the same, maybe 40g at most.

@LindsayJane well done on your progress so far. I don’t count my carbs but probably between 100 - 120g per day. Breakfast is probably my lowest carb meal as it’s normally Greek yoghurt with berries, omelette or eggs on a slice of Tesco High Protein bread. If I feel like a sandwich I have one slice of bread loaded with filling and I eat, amongst other things, potatoes, reheated pasta, bread, fruit, usually berries but occasional apple or clementine, veggies, both above and below ground, nuts and indulge in the odd treat ie about 3 squares of 70% chocolate or a cake.

Okay. Yours is a bit like mine. Though I eat nuts and not potato’s. Overall a similar diet and carbs, and also counting strategy. If I said 100carbs a day then I am possibly over estimating.

@LindsayJane I also consider portion sizes and my height. I factor in a bit for being 6ft. So am likely to be a bit higher in my carbs per day than many, just through larger portion sizing.

I try for 20g all of which come from green veg, salad and nuts.... oh and wine! Once a month I might have one square if 85% choc.

Less than 20g - mainly from above ground veg and dairy, some days it can be as low as 10g depending what's on the menu. I am using Diet Doctor and do a weeks menu that gives you loads of recipes then generates a shopping list- which is a great way of keeping me on the straight and narrow :), at the moment I mainly use the keto meals - I'm learning that keto isn't just about being very low carb but also about fat ratios. So some days even though I'm below 20g carb some of the meals I have are not high enough in fat to be considered keto.

Usually about 60g total carbs a day, mostly from non starchy vegetables, nuts, low carb protein bars, diary milk and one daily slice of wholemeal pumpkin seed bread, subtract all the fiber and it's about 50g net carbs. I could lower it by 10g by not using diary milk, but almond milk curdles in my coffee.

Week 1 on insulin... I am aiming to keep around 100 gm a day.
As this is all new to me, I intend to read up and experiment as the weeks go by.
I think that at 100 gm a day I should be able to eat well and enjoy some new food stuffs.

I had cauliflower mash over minced beef and a few carrots for tea... Yummy!
I love this mash more than potatoes to be honest.

20 g. I'm currently doing a low carb and low calorie, just until after Easter. I think I'll find it easier once I up my calorie intake and can eat more proteins and fats. After I've had my appointment with my GP and found out what all my blood work says, and whether I'll have to go on medication or insulin that will help me figure out what to do in the longer term. I've got my fingers crossed I won't need medication, and will be able to do a low carb-higher fats and proteins, and alternate day fasting or at least 5:2

I started off my new regime with 800 calories a day for 8 weeks then on to LCHF. I do still count calories but mostly out of interest, the carbs are way more important and I try to stick to 20 to 30 max each day. Working well for me and I can see no reason why it wouldn't do the same for you. I wish you success x

Monitor your blood sugars very closely.. low carb is a very powerful tool and you may find you need less insulin .. tell your HCP's that you are cutting carbs they may advise you to reduce or suspend your insulin. You really don't want to hypo.

@LindsayJane It might work it might not. :) What’s doing my head in most about this is how whether you can get a great life expectancy and life quality seems a total crapshoot to a certain extent, LOL. You could do everything right and manage by diet and exercise alone for most of your life and live to 90, or you could do everything right and need medication and insulin within a few years and die prematurely from the usual yuck type 2 complications! Mostly I’m feeling cautiously optimistic and I won’t know ANYTHING til I see my GP after Easter, but sometimes it feels like a “illusion of control thing helps people not to go off the deep end” thing.

I’ll figure things out as time progresses! :)

You are right to an extent, and obviously not everyone has the same levels of success, but I believe that in many cases (and not necessarily among those here) patients initially achieve good blood glucose control through oral hypoglycemics or exogenous insulin that make their disease gradually worse and thus more difficult to control over time. I think you’d have to be very unlucky to achieve good insulin sensitivity through diet alone and not be able to maintain it unless the diet changed. I’m sure it does happen though.

And before anyone leaps on their keyboard this is just my positive spin on your otherwise correct comment :D

I love coffee. I have a mug of either 'Nescafe gold blend', or 'Kenco Millicano', with one Silver spoon sweetener from their handy dispenser (which I carry everwhere I go) Plus a good glug of double cream.
Life really is too short for cheap coffee.
