Hello everyone, how you holding up? Got diagnosed and feeling really down. How you coped and what did you do in your first month apart that needle? Like Diet wise/exercise. I have heard it's possible to reverse type-2 with super strict diet.

Tho I have had my kidney stones removed last month. Now I have to follow Low-Oxalate diet. Someone knows whether it fits with Type-2?

nhs appear to like to spoonfed info little by little prob so not to overwhelm. Would be worth speaking to dietician for your particular dietry needs.

exercise: walking is decent anything areobic. First month did a fair amount of research on various topics and had a list of questions written down for the following appt with dsn. I found it useful ticking off the list of questions alongside writing down some notes of replies, as it can be hard to remember all. have a wee look at the following thread: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/questions-to-ask-at-a-diabetes-clinic.17091/ its normal to feel low imo diagnosis can come to a shock to the sytem.

with regards of 'reverse type2' the sucess stories section of the forum could be useful alongside checking out the recipes area i'm sure some will be low-exalate you'd need to check to ensure, which is why suggested dietician earlier so you have idea of what to avoid is ok in low quanties etc. hugs for the kidney stones good that they've been removed very sore! i know that @Rachox avoids almond flour due to oxalates which are in a fair amount of lowish carb recipes. they should be able to perhaps further assist with dietry needs.

the comment "apart that needle?" if your needlephonic your not alone effects 1 out of 10 of the population. I can post a few resources on that subject which should help a little. very needlephobic here have come a long way thou in the last 11months :) let know if that could be useful.

edit: corrected missing letter imo

Typing as @grantg was!
Hi @JohnOnDiet and welcome to the forum. I am a type 2 diabetic who has had a large high oxalate kidney stone and manage very well. I eat a low carb diet (<40g per day) and avoid high oxalate foods now.
I was diagnosed type 2 in 2017 and was started on low dose Metformin and and I gradually reduced my carbs to less than 40g. I got my hbA1c very quickly down from 70 to the 30s where it’s stayed ever since. Had a few med switches over the years but have always been on a low dose, currently half standard dose Rybelsus. When I had the kidney stone in 2021 I was told to reduce oxalate as my stone was 95% oxalate. There were several foods I was eating regularly that I had to cut out but easily switched to alternatives. I cut out almond milk in favour of coconut milk, I changed raspberries to strawberries, almonds to pistachios and cut out chia seeds, among other things.
I use an app called OxiPur for oxalate values. Low carb is explained very well here in an article written by one of the members here:

Hi John and welcome. You say you're diet only, so you're not on insulin, is that correct? So where does the needle come from - I'm T2 and have never used an injectable or indeed any diabetes medication. My first month was spent reducing carbs.

Hi Kenny, I read it that John was asking what do we all do apart from needles ie injectables.
