What are you hoping to achieve from fasting? And what are you having whilst fasting as everyone seems to have their own personalised version?

I thought fasting was part of the keto diet ?
Not specifically... quite a few keto people intermittent fast simply because they aren't hungry all the time so only eating when they feel the need. There's no need to force it.
I skip breakfast and only have lunch and dinner or somedays just dinner depending on how hungry I am.
Keto is about re-activating your hormonal triggers for hunger and satiety by not messing up your metabolism with carbs and for many this can lead to fasting but it's not an essential part of keto.

Doing Keto and intermittent fasting is two different approaches to how you gain control of your condition. The balance which suits your lifestyle, needs, work, family life, as well as ethnicity, availability and affordability, will help you get your balance right for you.

I think it would be hard for me at the moment as I am full time carer to my disabled mother and i need to eat to keep up strength , when the time comes if it comes and i find i can fast then i will do it , for now i think better to eat my meals .

Hi, @Charis1213,
I have a disabled wife. I work full time.
It is a misconception that you need to eat regularly throughout the day to keep your strength up. It is surprising that how little food we actually need for a full time job or a life committed to prolonged activities.
Eating healthy for you, does not mean three or four large meals and snacks, will help you through the day. Through my experience, little and often and fasting is a much better chance of gaining control over your blood sugar levels.

I believe that you would be surprised at how different your energy levels would be if you followed a LCHF diet and intermittent fasting.
You only have to try!

I always end up saying how hugely individual and different we all are potentially, metabolically speaking.

I have a huge amount of respect for the energy that food provides. How much food you need for how much energy to get tasks etc done seems to be very individual. And very often runs in families.

I am skipping breakfast and going for a late brunch as a way to help keep my insulin levels down to healthier levels (also called 'window of eating' IFing isn't it?) But I do not schedule physical work in during the mornings for this reason, and need a serious keto brunch and a decent wee energy giving afternoon tea in order to do serious physical work mid to late afternoon and early evening (it is the warm season where I am). I too do a bit of caregiving for my 'super ager' vascular demented mother, and absolutely cannot do any of it without my morning coffee with a dollop of high quality cream in it before engaging! This sort of thing, I believe, is perfectly normal, when it comes to food and drink and attending to people and physical tasks.

I thing we all have different requirements, and the more insulin resistance we have, the harder it is to access our fat stores.

So unless fasting is happening naturally, or it is something you want to do very strongly, then just ease back and settle into keto.

Those of us who have been doing this for a while can easily forget what it is like before full blown fat adaptation.

@bulkbiker gave v good advice: don’t force it. :D
