I need help restarting on LCHF as my blood sugars are well in the 20's and I'm due to see the diabetes nurse on Wednesday and I do not want to end up in hospital at this time of my studies. I've still got carb cravings and my counsellor has been in a accident so I've had no one to discuss my feelings and habits with food for 2 weeks. Also I've been testing for ketones and so far so good, but I've been waking up in the middle night an staying up for a hour or two and going loo too much.

Tomorrow, I've got a job interview in Leicester after uni in the morning and I need some advice on what to take with me so that I don't end up eating carbs. My breakfast for tomorrow is going to be a tin of mackerel with Mayo and for dinner beef strips and peas and carrots. Don't know what to have for lunch though as I will be having lunch in a cafe or restaurant.

Cooked breakfast is ideal. No fried bread, and pass on the beans. Most places do an all day breakfast.

Good luck with the interview.

I need some help on what to do now as bs levels have jumped from 10.9 last night at 8pm to 18.6 at 2am to 26.2 at 6am to 23.6 at 8am and now at 18.4. I've still yet to have breakfast, but I am thinking of waiting till lunch to have a salad, for dinner I may have some beef strips and 2 cans of peas and carrots which are only 5.5 trams o carbs per can.

Wow those are some high readings @akindrat18 what medication are you on? Personally I wouldn't be having any carbs at all while trying to sort it so would give the peas & carrots a miss, Abbie

I'm on lixisenatide, SR metformin 1000mg 1 twice a day and gliclazide 80mg 2 twice a day. Should I just eat meat, eggs and cheese? Also would going the gym for an hour help in bringing my levels down?

I would advise you see your diabetes nurse tomorrow regarding your blood glucose (bg) levels.

Until then please do not start any exercise regime with such high levels as it can be dangerous, exercise is not recommended with bg levels over 16 mmol/L.

And if there is any problem seeing your diabetes nurse tomorrow perhaps think about going to an urgent care centre or A&E.

Best of luck getting your levels down.

Blood sugar level at 19. All I've done is go to uni. I am hungry and don't know what to have for lunch.
When in doubt, or I feel uninspired, I revert to an omelette or bacon and egg, or quality sausage, or even sausage, bacon and egg. If cooking isn't an option, (you know what I'm going to say), some mini Babybel cheeses.

Whilst I know you don't want to, I think you need to see someone about those levels. I appreciate you're at a critical time in your studies, but these levels won't be helping your performance.

If nothing else, you need them logged on your records, should you need to appeal any borderline work/study related results.

How did the interview go?

I thought that exercise was good for bringing down bg levels? Anyways i've decided not to go now as after having two pints of diet coke and a salad from the uni bar that was just salad leaves, cucumber, tomatoes sliced red onion and 2 sachets of mayo with salt and pepper.

@AndBreathe I thought that sausages were a no no because of the carb content. I've got cathedral cheese sticks from the uni shop with 2 sticks for 75p. I think its time for me to get back on to eating eggs as the last time I had eggs was 3 weeks ago. I'm seeing the diabetes nurse tomorrow after changing appointments from April 30th to 15th after speaking to her about my levels on the phone. I am really stressed out and its not helping, as my bowel movements have changed rapidly from hard to loose stools and most of the time just passing gas.

I forgot to mention that my interview went ok and also i've been eating quite a lot of fruit lately from this beautiful weather that we are having.

Why are you eating fruit when your levels are high and out of control?
Fruit is like mainlining sugar.

If you want to do LCHF, those fruit pots are a bit on the high side for carbs, particularly the grape and strawberry one. You might be different to me, but I didn't get any real benefit from LCHF until I dropped below 30g of carbs a day (I'm now around 20g / day) and that one has over 15g in a tiny pot!

Being diabetic means there are some things we have to learn to live without .... feet .... eyes .... or sugar.

I've cut down my carb intake to 90 grams a day with having 30 grams at each meal. My bg levels now are 19.9, an hour ago they were 18.7. I've been in a lecture since 2pm and all I have with me is water.

It's important the sausages are good quality, or they will have a lot of rusk or breadcrumbs in them to bind them together. There are many good ones, 97% meat, for example. For me, these would work:

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=280002982 - 2 sausages 1.6gr carb

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=257577171 - Less than 05.gr carb, per sausage

Whereas, these I would pass on:

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=267446616 - at 10.7gr for 2, cooked

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=266728066 - at 7.8gr, again, per sausage

So, some reading of labels required before buying, and I must admit, I'll tend to pass on sausages if I'm out. In a bar/cafe/bistro, if I'm having an all day breakfast, I have never had an issue when politely asking of they could swap the sausage for bacon, or an extra egg.

And, of course, sausages can be cooked in advance and kept in the fridge for an alternative snack, or wrapped in foil, if you want a packed lunch option.

You could watch for the decent sausages on offer ?

I love Richmond Sausages and have found these skinless sausages that are low-carbish:

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=257447210 - at 2.7 grams per sausage

My bg levels have now dropped down to 14 and i'm not shaking as much now. Now i'm going to back to my halls and have 2 of these bad boys topped with cheese - http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=253609248

My bg levels this morning are at 14.3, last night they were down to 10.1 and I had the best nights sleep with no trips to the loo or waking up.
