curry or anything spicy, snakes and mosquitos!
Hi
I am going into hospital soon for an op on my shoulder - hopefully as a day patient. My big problem is, I am not very good at drinking water and I know how important it is especially after surgery to flush everything out of the system.

So - can I have lemon barley water? I don't have it very strong but need something to make sure that I drink plenty. I should say I don't like diet squashes as I find their taste always leaves me with an aftertaste.

Or has anyone else got any other suggestions for what I can drink?

Thanking you all in advance

How about squeezing a fresh lime or lemon into water? takes the taste off the water and is nice when really chilled

I know how you feel (water not op) I hate water with a passion. A weak no added sugar robinsons squash (apple and black current is lowest 0.2g sugar) is fine lots of us drink that.

Anything healthy!
I had an op 8 weeks ago I didn't hardly drink the water they gave me and they never pushed me to. The only water I drink is a small sip maybe during the night if I wake up.

I would have no added-sugar squash etc and not the lemon barley as it's probably loaded with sugar (check the label)

Squash is aweful - buy sugar free. You rally should learn to like water, though. Water is ridiculously good for you!

Chilled fruit or herbal teas, green tea with fruit flavours, can add lemon juice to any of these.

All the best with your operation, and a speedy recovery x x

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
definitely try adding a little lemon juice to water and DO get used to drinking water
It tastes better when COLD. Lemon barley is probably full of carbs. Read the label

Fizzy water with lemon and cucumber.

Diet coke or other fizzy one with no sugar.

Vitamin C soluble tablets in a pint of water.

1/4 yoghurt and 3/4 water.

My fave squash is Morrisons 'fruit and barley' squash (no added sugar)
I always get the orange, but I think there's also a lemon.
0.9gms per 100 ml :D

I find it a bit thicker than squash, and don't notice aftertaste.

The post suggesting herbal teas is good, I often make up a jug of herbal tea (or even earl grey) let it cool down and then pour it into a one litre bottle and keep it in the fridge. I find it's easier on the taste buds than water. :)

Thank you for all your suggestions - my issue is not at home as I can please myself - rather when I am in hospital as I like to drink as much as possible to flush out the anaesthetic!

Not sure how the NHS would take to me cutting up limes etc on the ward and don't suppose they do very cold water - from my memory it is all a bit 'change the water twice a day' so was looking for something to take away the taste that I didn't mind lukewarm :) but didn't know that there was a low sugar lemon barley - might have a look for that one!

Patch I agree I should learn to like water more - I am trying honest  just taking me a while!

In the past, I've had some bad experiences with sugar free barley water. It made me more thirsty the more I drank it. Remind you fo anything?

Suagr free lemon squash DOESN'T have the same effect. Asda's Double SF Lemon n' Lime squash is AWESOME, by the way. So is their SF Mexican Lime Squash.

are you sure that's per 100ml of serving and not per 100ml of concentrate?

The bottle of no-added sugar Robinsons strawberries and cream flavour I have in front of me gives the information as "Typical values per 100ml of concentrate"

Weird: mine says to dilute 1 part to 4 parts water, but that would make it ridiculously strong... I go for 1 to 10 which is nice enough.

That would be overpowering, the cynic in me would say they are suggesting this dilution rate so you use more of the product and replace it quicker.
