Libre seriously out compared to BG

hi!

Just wondering if anyone has had issues with libre sensors in really hot weather?

I’m in Italy for the Grand Prix, and knowing it would be hot and there would be a lot of walking I’ve lowered my background insulin and rapid ratios. However yesterday I had what I thought was a hypo and very much felt like a hypo, without my blood actually going below 5. I put it down to my blood just dropping very fast and thought nothing of it. Today my liver hasn’t shown me being below 15 however I feel fine. I did check it a few hours ago when I didn’t feel so great and I was high, however I have just checked it now as my libre is saying I’m 20.2 but my BG monitor is saying I am 12.6?

I’m not sure which to believe as I know both can be affected by heat but that is obviously a huge discrepancy.

My sensor did overheat earlier so I’m not sure if that’s broken it somehow?

And now I’m also thinking maybe when I corrected based on my libre yesterday I may not have been as high as I thought and that could have been what caused the huge drop?

PS. It’s 33 degrees here so I’m not sure if there’s a max temperature they stop working at?

Sorry small update, I noticed my blood monitor was showing a 0% for red blood cells so I do r think that’s wrong. I’ve done a QC and tested at 16.3 with 37% RBC so it’s still pretty out from my sensor?

CGMs are designed to be most accurate at "normal" BG levels. Anything in double figures is always likely to be out by a long way. I find them of little use of your BG is high.
Remember, all BG meters only need to be within 25% accuracy at normal levels. But even if you apply this accuracy level to higher BG, you could see large discrepancy between finger prick and CGM.
For example, a "real" BG of 15mmol/l could be reported as 12.75 on one meter and 17,25 on the other while still comply with the standard.

Whenever my CGM reports a high, I take a finger prick reading to use for my correction done calculation.

When using a CGM it is important to understand the limitations and make sure you check with finger pricks before making corrections.

Hi,

Are you hydrated enough in the heat?
I’ve read a good while back dehydration could affect the concentration or viscosity of interstitial fluid..

Normally if BG levels are swinging rapidly, the Libre will make you wait 10 minutes before picking up the reading?

Hydration is key. I personally wouldn't have changed my basal. But I do spend 10 hrs a day sugar surfing at work. Unless you're battling to put on weight or breastfeeding. Eating without insulin is ok. You just exercise to keep in range. But then again I could just be lucky as it's different for everyone.
