I’ve been looking at my carbs and would like to know the minimum and maximum carbs you could have in one meal for a Adult . I believe I know the calories should be 450 is this true.

Not really, as the amounts depend very much on the individual and on whether they want to lose or gain weight. (Yes, some T2s are underweight). eg a slim marathon runner probably needs more calories than an obese person who is sitting at home all day. And the carb allowance is also very much dependent on your personal metabolism,

I see from your previous posts that you are T2.

Most T2s here who control their blood sugars by low carb use a glucometer to see whether the food they eat for a particular meal has too may carbs for them. (A common benchmark used is to test immediately before a meal and then 2 hours after. If your levels have gone up by more then 2mmol/L you may want to reconsider the content of the meal. )

If you tell us a little more about yourself (how long have you been diabetic, whether you want to lose weight, what was your most recent hba1c?) some of the T2s on here may be able to give you more targeted advice.

Oh, and as far as I know, there is no minimum for the carbs, though if you are on certain medications you may need to be careful about lowering your blood sugars too far if you reduce your carb intake very dramatically.

As @EllieM has suggested, the amount of carbs we can tolerate differs between individuals.

You mention 450 calories? Do you mean per meal, or per day? Personally, I monitor carbs more than calories, but 450 calories a day would see me disappear, and 450 per meal probably wouldn't balance my metabolic books either.

My meals tend to be modest (but delicious!) breakfast, light lunch and a larger evening meal.

Hi and welcome to the forums. I agree with what EllieM has said above. I am T2 and fairly frequently have meals that are zero carb - a fried pork chop and mushrooms, for example.

I'm not sure that anyone could set an upper carb limit to what anyone could eat in one meal. People will eat a lot of stuff sometimes. However the "official NHS advice" is to eat around 200-300g of carbuhydrate a day. I used to do that and ended up with T2. I now aim for around 20g carbs/day which comes almost entirely from vegetables. I don't have the first clue what my calorie intake is, it doesn't matter to me.

I would also beware of media stories about what quantities and things you should and shouldn't eat. Quite often these are garbled and assembled from a number of sources by someone who doesn't understand what they're writing about. Just this morning I've been directed to an old story in the Sun from 2019 that says the NHS suggests that people should eat 30g carb/day but most only eat 18g. I suspect they've dropped a zero without being aware of it. Either that or the writer doesn't understand that fibre and carbohydrate are not the same things.

best of luck.

I agree - never forget a journalist is a person doing a job, not a medical expert.
