People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Wouldn't it be lovely if there was a posting that could give the basics of lower carbing higher fats to beginners..

I.e.
1) Ideas for purchases
2) list of basic ingredients that are good.. Ie sausages, eggs, full fat milk etc
3) what shouldn't be in the cupboards n fridge
4) extra ingredients that may help ie flax n chia seeds etc...

Yes, it's badly needed.

Learning how to low carb is a steep learning curve.

I got so much advice - mostly good - but in the end I decided to only follow the advice of those who had achieved non-diabetic hba1c's.

Yes, I agree but I think we also have to remember that some have more help from medications. to achieve their results than others.

Happy to give it a go but I'm a bit short of time at the moment. Any other volunteers? Maybe a PM round between those interested to review and fine tune it.

A basic template for low carbing might be useful followed up by personal tweaking as we all have different levels of carb intake anyhow...

I'm the same, would like to give it a go but have horrendous busy time at moment...waiting for some rain to get some time off!!

Think that it would also have to mention the possibilty of feeling a bit lethargic 'carb flu' too..

I would think it would be needed to be approved by the mods too!

It is a great idea tho :-)

It wld be quite good though cos many sites go for some carbs that for some diabetics aren't particularly good and they generally say if you have a medical condition to check with healthcare people.. And we all know that they are still in the minirity for agreeing to lower carbs. At least new people would have a guideline from genuine diabetics that have come together to give the basics of what works for basics.....and then could lead to the low carb recipes..

Wldnt it be great to have low carb breakfasts as a posting, lunches separate, snacks different and dinners.. All as separate posts and easier to look for ideas...

Just thoughts..??

Great idea, but these would have to be made stickies so they don't get lost, which would definitely have to involve the mods. Also, they would need to be moderated to make sure no-one starts going off track and de-railing the thread.

I think it's a good idea. Maybe the place to start is with a set of links to the LCHF websites, like dietdoctor, etc, to aggregate all the information in one place, and then apply the lessons learned after that.

Also would be worth adding tips and tricks to help with the low carb flu, like a list of supplements that can help remove the effects (I have this list).

It would also be worth discussing whether the "LCHF" is aiming at a Ketogenic result, as I think that is something that needs to be played in.

I would also love this finding I am eating the same foods all the time and not experimenting

@jack412 has some good links
seeing you asked :)

For me, the more carbs we eat the more carbs we want. they don’t give up easy.

Evidence is inconclusive for an ideal amount of total fat intake for people with diabetes;
therefore, goals should be individualized;fat quality appears to be far more important than quantity.
In people with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style, MUFA-rich [mono fats-rich] eating pattern may benefit
glycemic control and CVD risk factors and can therefore berecommended as an effective alternative to a lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate eating pattern.

If anyone is interested in writing a comprehensive guide that doesn't include any outside links or long videos, please feel free to do so and I'll be more than happy to sticky the thread :)

I would like to contribute as my live well advisor today has tasked me to write up a LCHF meal plan for a week and send it to her by next friday. She wants me to write up my own weekly meals with my own ideas so that I have less chance of reverting back to eating carbs if I choose foods that I love and I thought it would be a good idea for me to Post my own plan on here. What do you guys think?

If I was asked to do the same,

Hmmz this would be very difficult for me, I really don't know what I'm going to eat tomorrow let alone in a weeks time. Appetites change daily, even hourly with diabetics .I could come up with a list of possible meals or items that are generally low carb and low sugars, but to ask you to commit to a whole week is a little rigid. Personally I might be suggesting but not in the literal sense of course that he/she takes a short walk off a long pier..:p . Seriously though I think producing a rigid set meal list is not realistic, and perhaps could cause more snacking. If your advisor was diabetic maybe they would know this.

Good luck and take care, eat to your meter and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the offer Giverny. Can I ask why no links though - there are plenty of posts on the forum including links to all kinds of advice and research sources.

There are plenty of other threads within the low-carb diet forum where ideas can be followed up. I would therefore be inclined to have the guide stickied and also locked so that it doesn't become the basis for another argument.

If it's for beginners/newbies it should be fairly simple and not over-elaborating at a time when the intended recipient is already a bit confused.

Anyone welcoming a new member could easily link to this new thread.

I think it would be good to include a week's menu on the sticky guide as an example.

Statistically speaking, people (especially those new to a subject) tend to switch off and not bother clicking links to outside sources. It's best to simply summarise the content of those sources and post that instead of the link.
