Low-Carb Skipton - Monthly Meetings

Skipton is such a lovely place :)

We've been meeting again regularly now for a while, and numbers are slowly picking up after lockdowns.

We're open to anyone wanting to learn about low-carb, whether for weight loss and/or diabetes reasons. Meetings are usually first Monday of the month at 7pm in the Rendezvous Hotel, in Skipton. This can change usually because of bank holidays, so it's worth checking on the Low-carb Skipton facebook page.

Edited - The Hotel has decided that from November 2024 we need to pay £125 a night to have our meetings there. So we won't be doing that. We may be moving a bit until we can establish a regular site.

Ivor Cummins in Skipton

If anyone is in the Skipton area and would like to hear directly from Ivor Cummins, Low Carb Skipton has booked him to talk at the Rendezvous Hotel, Skipton, on the morning of Saturday 27th January.

Admission is £15 and you can book through the Low-carb Skipton website which is here:

There are a couple of other add-ons - a low-carb "Dinner with Ivor" at the Elsworth Mill, Skipton on Friday, and a lunch following the Saturday talk. Prices and current availability on the website.

Ivor's YouTube channel covers low-carb and other topics and you can find it here:

Really good meeting tonight at Low Carb Skipton with a LOT of new faces. Also getting coverage in (gasp) the Craven Herald.

Edited to say that Ivor C isn't a dietitian and doesn't claim to be, and that's not how I think you should spell "dietitian".

Sounds pretty cool!
Is it still usually on the first monday of the month? I might happen to be in the area on the first monday in october. And there's even a campsite right on the outside of Skipton that only costs £10 a night for a small tent.

I'm sure we can accommodate a bona fide Dutch exchange visitor, although we may ask you to do a presentation of some kind. We're nasty like that.

You mean I'll be invited to bore them all to death with low carb T1 management, screenshots of my graphs, and pictures of cold water swimming? Can I include pictures of my dogs and guinea pigs as well? I'm sure I can find a way to make them relevant to low carb and diabetes to appear on topic if I try.

Sounds great! :hilarious:

We don't have many T1s in the group and a talk about that in itself might be quite interesting. I'll talk to the Committee....
Which means my experiences aren't very relevant to the group I think...

Except for the guinea pigs of course, they are a godsend for every low carber wanting the occasional bite of fruit but doesn't want to throw away the fruit minus one bite.
And they allow me to have a much larger variety of veggies in the larder at any given time, without having to throw out much because they've gone off in a one person household.

Is this still on @KennyA ?
Driving from Liverpool to Skipton late sunday afternoon sounds pretty good to me, now only to find that campsite again...

I thought you were heading north after Liverpool - yes we'll be having the local Low carb Skipton meeting on the first Monday in October as usual, and afaik there isn't a speaker lined up, so we might ask you to do 15 minutes on Type One and low carb - or something. You could equally do wild swimming or Impressions of England. The group is s bit split between those of us who are diabetic (the minority) and those of us who just want a gossip about weight loss drugs or the latest problem additive.

I'll talk to Verner.

I'd been planning on getting the train back on Sunday but if you're driving.....

Perfectly happy to do an impromptu 15 minute ramble on T1 and low carb. By that time I'll have spent a week in my tent (ok, minus the weekend) without my computer, so plenty of time to think of an interesting angle for diabetics and non diabetics, possibly finding a common ground relevant to all where my T1 experience may add something. Ideas welcome!
Strategically, I'll do something to coax people to ask questions, a dialogue is so much easier than a monologue.
Or else I'll simply tell some cool stories.

Do you drive?
We could discuss what is safer: having me drive on the wrong side of the road or you drive on the wrong side of the car. Or we'll toss on who's to have a drink at the meeting and who isn't of course. ;)
If I'm to be the speaker of the evening I believe I deserve the drinks I'll be offered for my brilliant speech...

Either way, it looks like you've got a two-way ticket to Liverpool, and this also solves the issue of too much camping gear in my car for passengers. I'll simply leave my stuff at your place to leave room for people who'd like to see my car wrecked by baboons.

Update for Low Carb Skipton meetings.

We had confirmed our meeting dates for the rest of the year with the hotel, but its management has now decided that from now on they will be charging us £125 for the two hours of our meeting. This is for a Monday night 7-9 pm with the hotel otherwise empty.

So, we're not paying that and November's meeting will be at

"Elsworth at the Mill"
High Corn Mill
Chapel Hill
SKIPTON
BD23 1NL

We're hoping to have a regular venue again, but in the meantime thanks to the Elsworth.
