LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

It's encouraging that a doctor asked that question when he saw your blood test results. No doctor I've seen has ever asked me that question.

Hi, I started cutting down on carbs when I was diagnosed as type 2 in early 2016. However, it wasn't until I went on the blood sugar diet in Jan 18 that I became more consistent, stopping eating all bread, wheat products, pasta rice and potato. I was delighted to lose 2.5 stone over that 8 weeks. Since then I've still kept off those carbs, most of the time, enjoying my new found taste for artichokes, celeriac and really not missing the other foods. My weight has stayed the same - although I have been hoping to lose more.
I've just had my diabetic review and my Hb1Ac is now 38! It was 56 in 2016 and 48 in 2017. My doctor has I'd that I've successfully reversed it and to carry on doing whatever is working. For me that is avoiding bread, potatoes rice, sugar etc but still having them occasionally, if I want them. I've also bought an electric bike which has made a big difference to the time I spend out and about cycling. I love my new found freedom from diabetes and will try to keep on track the way I'm eating.

Hi all quick update. Went for weigh in and had lost another 7.2Kg, that's 2 1/2 stone in 2 months. I've also got my Bg down from 16.6 to an average 4.5 in 7 days. I'm still on 18/6 fasting but have reduced my carbs again to 5% per day. I have my diabetes Mot next month and also bloods so will keep you posted on results.

Fantastic achievement I hope you get a good result for all your hard work. Whatever it is you are definately healthier than you were before so that in itself is your reward

Brilliant results extremely well done.

I've done it HbA1c down to 41 yes FORTY ONE was 82! Also 4 stone weight loss all in 3 months. My Dr cannot believe it! All by LCHF and fasting.
Thanks for all the help.

VERY HAPPY
Whoppee - congratulations and well done to you. great too that you’ve shocked the dr with your three month turn around. Bear in mind too that at beginning of period your bgs would have been higher so if you carry on then your next hbaca1 will be even lower to reflect your current much lower bgs.
Lovely too to confound the medics !
Celebrations on the cards.......

Ps why not set up your own success story thread about this especially as you’ve had the condition for a while and were progressing to higher level meds could inspire many on here who are on that path and looking for a belief that it may be possible with lCHF and fasting this would be seen by more as a stand alone than in this mixed feed
EDit just spotted you h@ve brilliant

Success following by Low Carb High Fat Diet

When I was diagnosed as diabetic Type 2 in January 2013 my mmol reading was 52mmol.
In October 2017 my reading was 76mmol my diabetic nurse was very concerned.
Today my reading was 46mmol. I have for the last 6 weeks been following a Low Carb High Fat Diet.
My diabetic nurse was dumbfounded today saying "if I was giving you these results today of 46mmol, my diagnosis would be that you're not diabetic"

I've also lost 14 lb in the last six weeks following a Low Carb High Fat diet and am now out of the obese zone
I have more energy, no longer have joint pain, do not feel the need to sleep after every meal and no longer suffer from sever acid reflux.

A huge thanks to the wise words of Dr Unwin and Dr Xand van Tulleken for his inspiration BBC programme "The Truth About Carbs" and of course everyone on this forum

Thanks @shelley262 cant wait for my Dn to see the results (she is off till Monday) She was a bit against LCHF at the start but she is pleased with the way things are going especially the weight loss.

Hi Terrytiddy, your results are great.

I’m new to this site having no been diagnosed in April T2, I did a bit of reading on here and ended up on the Diet Doctor site, I’ve not subscribed but just change my diet and only eat vegetables above ground and protein, keeping it simple.

I was given Metformin at first, but I stopped taking it after a week due to the side affects, I’ve been doing quite well with the diet and have gone from 11 st 3 - 8 st 8 and my BS has been mainly between 5-6; sometimes even after a meal it’s been in the 5’s, but my little machine says that’s low, is that correct?

Today whilst my morning reading was 6 after a good walk dropped to 4.9 and then 4.7 after coffee and 2 squares of dark chocolate and the 5.5 2 hours after dinner.

My morning readings have ranged from 4.8 - 6.2, and the higher reading is probably due to the red wine, however I read Champagne/Prosecco is lower and slower release.

However, I note you are only having around 10/5g of carbs a day, how are you doing this when everything has carbs in it?

Do you subscribe to a diet site?

If you are not taking any diabetes medication then a result in the 5's is perfectly normal not low.

I wonder if your meter is like mine where you can set targets for fasting, premeal and post meal. As meters are used for different types of diabetes with different meds, you may be able to change the target to suit your situation.

Yes I can set the targets or range, I just went with the pre-set because I wasn’t sure and I sort of work from what they say on hear
Morning 5-7, before meal 4-7 and after a meal under 8.5 for T2, but try to achieve the normal blood rang before 4-5.9 and after under 7.8.

So difficult to know what range to put in?

Ok so was diagnosed about a year a go. HB1C was 54. I was given very little info from the doctor's but loads of help from here. Within 6 months I got my HB1C to 41 and weight from 160lbs to 140lbs Daily meter readings fasting are 4.5ish and after between 7 and 9. Doing really well thanks to low carbs. However I still need to lose another 7 to 9 lbs bit can't seem to shift it. So really pleased with how far I've come but would be interested in any ideas to shift that last half a stone.
