Apologies if this has been asked before (I'm new to this site). I've just been diagnosed with type 2 and am trying to get my head around what I can and cannot eat. I'm often out on the road for work so would generally stop at a supermarket to pick something up for lunch.
Can anyone tell me what they would normally 'grab' in these circumstances?
Huge thanks
Hi
@ANNIEK2022
Sorry to hear you've now joined our merry band.
The club no one wants to join.
A great bunch, and I'd suggest THE most important step anyone with type 2 could take, to getting themselves back to better health, diabetes wise.
It sounds all doom & gloom just after diagnosis, (DX)
But I got my DX about 4 years ago... Many others wayyy longer then that, and we're doing fine
As for supermarket dinners...mmhh.
Anything without bread pasta or rice, as you likely know.
So boiled eggs, prawns, deli meats, ham chicken. Yogurt, berries.
Cheeses galore. Some vegetables
I often bought a bag of salad, kept it in fridge and just added some different meat each day.
I'd throw in a ryvita (5g carbs) for a bit more flavour and crunch
Not as easy as before admittedly, I found making my own packed lunch and bringing that in was easiest
Now if you're were asking about take aways...
I found cottage chicken, did a wicked grilled chicken, with salad that filled me up and was delicious.
Kebabs still tasty, just don't eat the pitta or ask for the meat in a container and add salad, etc
Burgers too but no bun, but that to me seemed to lose half the meal and be wasteful.
Subway did a superb chicken salad, other meat available, which I found extremely filling and delicious, as did pret and others.
Good luck picking up an idea of a few items to build around.
It does get easier.. Honest.
If you haven't got one, I'd recommend a meter,
Just makes it clearer and easier what did YOU can eat AND what you should maybe avoid or strictly limit.
Good luck on your journey.
