What can i have for my midmorning snack? I usually have crisps but it needs replacing i think.. I need a mid morning snack as i am on novamix30 at the moment. I woke up with 13.0 had my breakfast etc , then it shot up to 16 so i went a bike run.. Its now going down 12/11 way. So what is good to have as mid morning snack? Suggestions please :)

How many carbs do you normally have for the snack?

Is this an unusual day with your high sugars?

Well i usually have a bag of crisps worth. And no it isnt unusual, thats why i want to change things. I will be moving onto nova rapid and lantis very soon i think but for the mean time i have a pack of abernethys here.. Was maybe gona try two buiscuits instead of crisps , what do u think?

Personally, I've banished all crisps and biscuits from my diet. If I'm peckish I'll have a couple of slices of ham rolled up with cheese, or a high meat content sausage. Helps to keep the hunger pangs away :)

Hope you can get those numbers down when you switch to MDI.

Thats awesome :)! I can probably do that when i move to the new insulin but as of now i have to stay into routine eg morning, mid morning, lunch etc etc. thanks , i have been scared to try a new insulin but im going to now i think as i get highly reccomended !

Full fat greek yogurt with a few berries "Fage" is good.............

If you need the carbs, a biscuit or two would be ok. I think a regular packet of crisps has around 13g or so of carbs. You could try an apple which is approx 15g carbs.

Hi. Good luck with MDI insulin regime. Most T1s are on it and although it means more injections than the two for the mixed insulin it gives much better control and from your other post that is what you're quite rightly trying to achieve. Do carb count when you go onto MDI; seek advice from the DN and it's easy. I would always suggest things like cheese and nuts for snacks.

Thanks ! :D i picked out these buiscuits from the cupboard because they have less carbs than crisps so hopefully it might make a difference.. Although my lunch time readings and dinner readings are my strong point :)

Absolutely @bigboi If you've been told to have a carb snack, then continue to do so, or speak to your team for advice about changing. I was on mixed insulin when I was first diagnosed and I was told to do the same.

Please can people bear that in mind when recommending snacks.

Keep testing then you can see how the biscuits suit you :)

Since were on the subject of snacks, have you any suggestions on changing breakfast because weetabix seems to shoot my readings up to be honest...

You could try another cereal eg muesli or granola or a bran cereal maybe? Or maybe a complete change like toast and eggs, etc.

Whatever you change to, do be cautious and check the carbs. I keep saying it, but if in any doubt always check before making any changes :)

Good:)

No probs , have a look in the frozen section , most supermarkets do a bag of mixed berries for a few quid , lasts me a month lol......Fage is the best but a bit pricey , but own brand is not bad :) tesco sometimes do small individual ones that are great......... just remember Full Fat..........

@bigboi, moving to a basal/bolus will take away the need to snack between meals, it's a much better insulin regime than the one you are on now as you can be more flexible around meal-times.

As for a carby snack, Nairn's Cheese Oatcakes are really nice as are fun-sized banana's, if you choose banana's make sure they are not too ripe.
