I've seen that its possible to be diagnosed with type2 then later to find lada (type1) however is it possible to be diagnosed as type1 with hospistal ruling out type2 several months ago to maybe be type2?

much lower insulin requirements now 4 months on.
started with 18 units toujeo & 5 novarapid per meal for around a month or so then 15 units toujeo with 1:10 ratio carbs to insulin. 3-4 weeks ago changed to 1:20 ratio novarapid down to 13 units toujeo. few days ago was told to try ignore novarapid just use basal, DSN is adamant type1 but 100% honeymoon period.

Today 10 units toujeo only. started at 6.9 ate 10g carbs directly prior to popping into the pool after a 16 length swim was lowish 3.9 approx 45g carbs another 16 lengths libre whining low glucose at 3.3. Fingerprick 4.1.
10g more fast carbs + 12g slower (22g total)

i do realise that type2 can be treated with insulin also. sorta fed up eating junk to raise them. no family history of type1 diabetes, however have several family members with type2, couple of them were treated with insulin.

Hi @grantg Yes, it is possible to be diagnosed as Type 1 and then for subsequent tests to confirm you are actually Type 2, as well as the other way around.
I have no personal experience of this but I'm tagging @Chris24Main who is Type 2 but was originally thought to be Type1.

It’s very possible, I was diagnosed initially as T1 whilst in hospital for something else, I was later changed to T2, but it was only a matter of weeks

Though if it was only a recent T1 diagnosis, this may be the honeymoon period where your pancreas may be sort of working still and is now being helped by your injected insulin and is now helping a bit, I'm sure I've seen that mentioned a few times before

Aware of honeymoon period which DSN says most definitely is. I haven't had results from c-peptide something to do with lipid results were off the charts triclyerlides thingies 63+ first readable reasult, choloestrol first readable 13.4 which was 3-4 days after initial bloods taken and had already started IV insulin DKA protocol. Insulin requirements so much lower now alongside family history type2. I've ate so much rubbish recently entire box 50 lift tablets few packets jelly babies ice-cream and that's just in the last week just to try keep up above 5 to drive. I'm sure doing that won't be helping at all straight down arrow 3.3 and below sorta scares me

thanks for info much appreciated. I'm terrible with getting bloods done really bad local hospital refused to try again. the nurse at the GP managed, shame that in my area she can't do them for me, no lab and such short time think she mentioned half life or something means they would need to be at lab within 15 minutes or something for c-peptide and antibody test. Night vs Day local dr's surgery been great compared to both hospistals been in :)

The C-Peptides results will give you and your team a much better idea what is going on with your insulin production @grantg . Were you not producing autoantibodies to beta cells? I think it is a wait and see until you get your C-Peptides results back.

It's possible for people in the honeymoon phase to temporarily come off insulin altogether so I think you really need those blood tests to see what is happening

Can't answer if producing auto antibodies or not no idea what ruled out type2. Only know for sure hba1c 162. Also know lipid profile affected results so some tests could not be performed. Keytones were apparently very high 6+
