Music Fan?

The Dubliners sang "The Sash My Father Wore" on
TV. It caused a huge outcry until one of them, I just
can't remember his name, but it was the singer 3rd
from the right in the pink shirt, was interviewed on
a tv news report where he said........
" Well, we're Roman Catholic, we just happen like
the tune".
Hah, that fairly tickled me. I thought, good for you, respect.
If only more people could adopt that attitude. (Peace)
The story disappeared soon after that.

Doubt they'd get away with it these days though.

The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, very keen on
them , so had them in my record collection in the 60's also.
Forgot all about them until I heard them singing again on
the radio just a while back.
But as I said, both groups definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

Liam Clancy had a song to the tune of The Sach, cannot remember what it was called (will ask my son) but it certainly did not echo the sentiments of The Sash!
On a similar note I heard an English folk ssong on the radio to the tune of 'the Billy boys' a well know sectarian song in Scotlanf. The lyrics were 'hello hello, we are the jubilee ' it cracked me up.

Well, actually, I do know, it's that silly foggy brain of mine fogging up again.

It was a pity throat cancer ended his life.

Anyway, in his memory, here's an image of Ronnie with his hair and beard gone
due to the cancer treatment cancer sufferers have to endure.....poor soles.

You would never have recognized him.



Also, here's a rather nice official tribute to him.

The first time Mr Chris and the Irish band played at Goodwood Week (just re booked for this year their 13th) the police came along and asked what sort of music they played and they replied just crowd pleasers they were then told that the previous years band played rebel songs and caused a riot. So far they seem to have kept the peace and most of the Saturday punch ups have been in the so called posh ends. :D

Yep, love the Pogues as well but thought Junes voice had the right sort of sombre note for the occasion. Shane McGowan must be some sort of medical miracle with the amount he drinks. Saw him once at the Barbican and he shuffled on stage, beer (or something) in hand, but as soon as he touched the mike it was like a switched had been turned on and he was absolutely fabulous.
 
Heard this on Sounds of the Sixties this morning. I read somewhere that she & Gerry Goffin were living in New York and he wanted to move to the suburbs and this was a sort of protest song

Hows about clicking on my latest attempt at some modern music.
The more clicks I get the more I stay on the scene as it were.
My latest is called Times Passing.
You don't have to like it ... you can press play and then go and make a cup of tea ... without sugar.
My wife says I'm to old for this kind of stuff but my grandchildren think I'm Mister Cool!

Didn't know mr chris was in an Irish band, I thought it would be rock I don't know why???
