My low carb/IF Diet - BG and progress

Fast day 15 today. Really struggled to get blood out this morning and it really frustrated me. Pricked myself about 7 times and gave up in the end with an only just enough blood reading of 6.1. May need to have a week off from testing. I'm being good anyway so it shouldn't matter too much although it is nice to see good readings.

Bad nights sleep - today could be rather long....x

Blood taking sounds a bit grim, are you using good Lancets?

I just use the one that came with the code free monitor. Are we supposed to replace them after a certain amount of time?

Well I am in day 42 of my lo-carb diet (<30 carbs a day) and so far I have lost 9 kg, having seen nothing but weight increase for the 4 years prior to that, Additionally, my BG is steadfastly remaining in the 4 to 9 range , not my usual 12 or 13 , and my BP is comfortably in 130 sys/ 90 dia instead of 156 and 120.. , oh! and I have to tug my belt a notch more to hold my trousersa up!!! My only negative is 2 short (2 minutes at most) periods of feeling light-headed and unable to concentrate. I checked my bg immediately after and it was 5.6 and 6.6. Any observations or similar from other lo-carbers?

@KevinPotts I change the needle frequently - I meant the plunger!!

@PNJB those results are marvellous. You'll get over the dizziness - I say drink more water. More than you think you need. I've often thought my bg was low only to test and see it was fine so just carried on regardless. 52 days is too long in to be getting carb flu so I think it's water. Keep it up. X

Deb - No need to replace the whole device, unless it doesn't fire the lancet each time. You could try washing your hands in warm water and swinging your arms a bit before trying to draw blood. Both the warmth and motion could help.

Been swimming today and feel exhausted!! I've really lost my appetite and can't believe I am now not interested in stuffing my face every five mins. I think I'm actually at the point now where I could sit in a dessert parlour and not partake in sampling the waffles and ice cream....never thought I'd ever hear myself say that!

Fast day 17 today! Can't believe it's at that already. Teachers are on strike today but assistants have to go in to do odd jobs, so I'll be sorting out huge resource cupboards. I hope my mind doesn't wander and crave food! Going out for dinner tonight after watching my kids' show - they're doing Annie so that'll be fun. Planning on being good though and will not stray from the path of righteousness...

Overdid it a bit last night as we went out for dinner. I'd asked for salad but waitress brought chips so I had a few. They were devine! Had a coffee instead of dessert.

Not testing at the mo as my fingers need a break. I really don't know how type 1s do it all the time. Poor things.

I may skip lunch today because I can't be bothered to make something to take in to work with me....

Have a good day x

Fast day 18 done. Not eating really is so liberating! I'm saving loads of time by not having to make three daily meals. I'm actually looking forward to our little trip away in August where I plan to fast 24 hours five days in a row! I think I can actually do it...

Deb. I've loved reading your thread

You're a lot like me - up & down (emotionally/diet/sleep) all the time, except you're doing really well and I'm not!

The Education Sector is a nightmare, I'm glad I'm not in it - I salute anyone being able to stick it right now. I don't know how you put up with the people you work with, I'd had told them to Get Lost a long time ago. It's one thing to work like you do, but to be unappreciated & criticised is quite another.

I think the referendum has taken it out of a lot of us, no matter how we voted.

I'm here trying to find my 'vegetarian-no eggs-low carb' mojo...it seems to still be hidden behind 'Really-Can't-Be-Bothered-Totally-Exhaused-GIVE-ME-THE-LATTE'... sigh.

I'll keep checking in to see how you're doing!

Thanks @ShortStuff! That's very sweet of you. Can't really offer you any food advice as I can't imagine how hard low carbing would be as a veggie!! I was never much of a meat eater in the past but doing this is giving me the authority to eat 'bad' stuff I'd always steered clear of based on the misinformation we've been plied all our lives...

Starting is always the hardest part but you gotta do it. I did the maths and worked out that I'll be slim by Spring next year. Had I stayed on the right tracks when I started two years ago, I would be my slim self by now. I could beat myself up about it and sink further into ill health or I can draw a line under it and put my best foot forward....always seems so easy in hindsight!

I never thought I'd be able to shake off emotional eating. Ice cream always had the answer...I know I could lose more weight if I laid off the whipped cream with melted choc and nuts but I don't want to feel deprived, so if that's what keeps me on track then sobeit.

Had sports day at a secondary school today (mine is a primary). I spent all day on my feet, didn't have lunch and got sunburnt (how, I have no idea as it was cloudy!) and although it was exhausting, it was a lot of fun. Definitely got my 10k steps in.

Fasting tomorrow and I'm going to try to swim as normal with the kids. I'm not confident I'll have the stamina to push through with front crawl but I didn't make it to the pool all week and I don't want to lose my momentum. I suppose I could break fast a little earlier so I can have a snack beforehand, but that feels like cheating...

My eldest daughter's bday is in two weeks. She wants to go to a dessert parlour where they make amazing waffles. I'm planning on not having any....

Happy Friday xxxx

I've woken up today with a really sore throat that feels like crushed glass at the back of my mouth. Really not good at all. Tried to get up and have a coffee but really struggled so came back to bed. Left the kids to their own devices and it looks like a bomb landed on this house. I've slept but feel shattered. Think I'm getting ill with something.

Fasting today so that's good as I can't face food....

Be kind and gentle with yourself.

I had a bad sore throat which turned into a bad chest cold last week and it knocked me for a six together with my BGs, so just take it easy:)

Thanks Kevin. Pretty much been horizontal all day but resorted to an apple cider vinegar drink which is supposed to help fight the bacteria. It's done nothing so far. Have to take the girls swimming at 5 but won't do anything strenuous so I preserve my strength!

On the good side though, this has been the easiest fast yet. If I'm not hungry later, I'll continue to not eat and see how far I get...can see me having scrambled eggs as a midnight feast. I'm trying to resist the temptation to eat ice-cream - purely for medicinal purposes ....xxx

Resist...resist.....unless you have some OPPO in the freezer:)

Just completed my 7 day fast. Results are in on the timeline, replete with photos:)

I'll go check it out. Well done for getting through it. At this moment in time I could happily not eat for a month!

Not had a chance to get oppo yet. It's on the wish list though and I'm looking forward to trying it.

Keep up the good work! X

Oh ****! Is lemsip bad for diabetics?

I've still not eaten anything today and having lemsip before I tuck myself up in bed....I'm feeling sorry for myself now. Trying to focus on the positive that the girls have been pretty good today (despite the mess). Hoping they can put themselves to bed as I desperately need a lie down.....x
