My weight loss - Probably not dietry

Oh dear. That's the sort of curved ball nobody needs, @SlimLizzy - On the back of that bombshell, what does the Doc actually intend to do to move things forward? Has he made any referrals, or ordered a decent raft of blood tests
Request for an urgent MRI scan, heard him on the phone, was practically begging for same day...Have already had blood tests and xray.

Not sure if it was self care, but we bought four different versions of chocolate. Had the chocolate eclairs with dinner.

Afrer your appointment @SlimLizzy , did you go home and weigh on your own scales to ascertain how accurate the loss was?

Edited to add; what did he say about the issue you were having for getting your required calories eaten each day?

Just assumed his scales were different ( better not say wrong) checked this morning, have lost about half a kilo in five days. So the trend is still steadily downwards, am wondering how fast it would go if wihout eating for Britain?

When you had your thyroid checked, did they check antibodies at all? Being hot and weight loss can be signs of an over-active thyroid (though they usually look for underactive in the first instances).

Did he order any additional bloods for you?

Wow and I thought my life was stressful.
Keep us informed. I'm thinking of you and your needs. I hope you get what you are seeking in France. Peace, it sounds like.

Discussed thyroid test results

You have many stressful things going on. Relocating anywhere would be a major stress for anyone.

I've just had 2 lots of thyroid tests. One done at an NHS hospital for an endocrinologist and the other done at a clinic for a GP who I consulted privately because she specialises in metabolic problems ( Fellow of the Metabolic Medicine Institute).

The private test looked at more things (I'll have to dig the results out) and her conclusion was that I have an under active thyroid. The test that the endocrinologist was looking at led her to suggest that I have no thyroid problems. I'm not sure of the conclusion I should draw from different diagnosis from different tests.

I'm actually taking Selenium which is an essential nutrient which contributes to the protection of cell constituents from oxidative damage (used by the body to make antioxidant enzymes whose role is to neutralise ‘free radicals’, unstable chemicals which, in excess, can damage cells). It also contributes to the:
  • normal function of the immune system
  • normal thyroid function
  • the maintenance of normal hair and nails
So says the blurb.

I wish you well.

Hope they sort your problems out. Best wishes Liz

@ickihun may not be able to go to France just now. All balls up in the air. At that cartoon pause waiting to see where they fall

Oh no.
It is tough when our hormones impede our progression.
One step at a time... Serves me well.
Try and keep upbeat so your positive attitude gets you through the tough bits.

What's got priority? Closing down house?
Please take things at a healthy pace. Breathe and count to 10.

I hope today panned out ok?

Wow S- so very much you are dealing with - no wonder you are still losing weight. Best wishes for

Wow - so very much you are dealing with - no wonder you are still losing weight. Best wishes for getting through it all smoothly and everything working out positively in your life !

To be honest, in my experience, many endos are focused on diabetes, and therefore aren't thyroid experts. Most Endos just look at TSH, then maybe take a look at the T4, and if it's at all near range (and TSH range is, in my view, way too wide), all's well.

I have had about a 3 year battle with this and am still nowhere near symptom free with immovable T4 and out of bottom range T3,............. Round 17.4.7.0 is about to begin!

When your metabolic Doc did the thyroid tests, did they also do Vit D, B12, C-RP, Ferritin, Follate and both sets of thyroid antibodies?

Good luck with it all. Thyroid is so pivotal to our metabolic health and just a bit off can leave us feeling well out of tune.

My initial appointment was because of the failure to lose weight while on a low carb (<50gms), low calorie (always < 1200 cals, often < 1,000 cals) diet. Her recommendation was to start using Victoza, not for BG but for weight loss. The GP I consulted was on the same wave length although discussed Saxenda which is the same drug (Liraglutide) at a stronger dose. Like everything there are possible side effects and for the time being I have decided to put this on hold. I'm already having investigations of my colon, bladder and prostate which I'm quite optimistic about but don't want to have anything else like the pancreas coming into the picture. Pancreatic cancer might be very rare but I have something of a mistrust in anything a pharmaceutical company might say about it's products.

Vit D OK taking supplement
Vit B12 10 mg supplement added
C-Reactive Protein, I know I've had this test which has indicated inflammation (think I have that right).
Ferritin Iron OK
Follate B12 supplement added

Total Thyroxine (T4) 47 is below range (58 -161 mmol/L)
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) 16 is below range (0.40-4.00 microIU/mL)
Free Thyroxine (FT4) in range
Free T3 2.5 is below range (2.8-6.5 pmol/L)
Reverse T3 (rT3), Thyroglobulin (TG) and Peroxidase (TPO) all in range.

Thanks for questions, it makes me concentrate on what's going on with the thyroid thing. The whole bit with an MRI and CT scan, plus 2 cystoscopies, one under a GA to get a biopsy, and just a colonoscopy to go has taken my mind off the weight thing. Just too much going on for my brain. So, one step at a time and I'll get there . . . . . eventually.

House is mostly packed and already transported to France. Currently Mr Slim is finishing off his work, he planned to retire and we are both waiting for scan appt. Not a lot to do and no decisions can be made until we have more information. Am keeping the house clean and the garden tidy- we are eating from the freezer. Trying not to panic. Thats about all we can do at the moment.

I don't want to deflect @SlimLizzy 's thread, but I assume you meant your TSH is over range, not under?

When I started looking into thyroid issues, I joined the Thyroid UK element on Health Unlocked. It's rather like here, but for thyroid (funnily enough!). I have learned a huge amount from the guys on there, and I suggest if you haven't already that a look around there and maybe signing up could be helpful to you.

Good luck with it all. You've struggled with your own weight, albeit differently to SlimLizzy for quite long enough.

Apologies SlimLizzy. No more deflection from me on this thread.

I'm not normally one for inspirational quotes to be honest, but there were a couple of things people said to me last year when we were going through a tough time that really helped me. Firstly, the old advice of taking things one day at a time, and if that seems too much, just take it one hour or even one minute at a time. It sounds like you are trying to take that approach. Secondly, someone said you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. Sending you hugs and strong vibes xx.
