weight = 13.4 so for the first week that's a 8lb loss
fasting bloods= 7.7 so that's down 2.2
3 x asda shakes = 348 cals and 24.9 carbs
300grms leeks = 133 cals and 42 carbs
150 grms pepper 60 cals and 14 carbs
150 grms bean sprouts = 35 cals and 3.2 carbs
coconut oil 11grms = 100 cals
2 cups of tea = 10 cals
250grms alpro and 50 grms raspberries =130 cals and 7.2 carbs
so that's 816 calories and 91.3 carbs.

I think I will stop the leeks as they are high carb and I think I would rather have more bean sprouts.

Hi Folks,

I'm just about to start the Newcastle diet again, I did it about 3 1/2 years ago, but I let things slip and landed back where I started, It's been a bad 6 months, eating like a non diabetic, so much ****, So here goes again, starting Monday 14th November back on to the asda shakes breakfast and lunch then a veggie meal at supper time. Anyone else doing this diet just now?
Hi I am Srini from India I would like to start the Newcastle diet and my doubt is during this period can we continue our physical exercise like running? or not?

please suggest me.....

I would think so. Jason Fung's research on his webpages and videos suggest that even on intermittent fasting, i.e periods of no food at all, that exercise is possible.

Although I was not on Newcastle for initial weight loss, the diet I was on, a vegan one, was also low calorie and did work. Moreover, they even have Indian/Pakistani recipes and it is free. I basically went on different ones of them.

Thank you and I will try this.

Hi srinivasbiotech2005 This diet is very restricted in calories (800) with me anyway I don't have a lot of energy left by the end of the night, so I know that I would not be able to exercise without eating more, but I have read that some people do manage to exercise.

I did low carb for a long time, and the three shakes alone exceed the low carb Induction level of 20 gm per day.
I wonder just how effective Atkins Induction would be in controlling blood glucose levels over this higher carb regime.
Has anyone got personal experience of both methods, and can compare the results.

Hi Resurgam Yes there is quite a lot of carbs in the shakes, even more if you make them with milk, but this is a low calorie diet, that's 12 days I have been on it and my fasting numbers are coming down nicely started at 9.9 and today they were 5.7. most of the stuff i'm eating for this diet will not be in my eating plan when I start back to eating normally again.

Thank you for the information - the two regimes seem to be entirely different, in that the Atkins diet is a way of eating which is for life - unless you have got doctors like I had the misfortune to encounter. I will not get any more tests for some time, but the low carbing has made me feel a lot younger, but I might have to try different things if my levels do not go down. I was trying to lower cholesterol by changing my diet, and in less than two years have full blown diabetes.

I certainly can see the utility in such a thing, but what is in them in terms of ingredients?
Hi Contralto This is the nutrient list of the asda shakes made with 250 ml of skimmed milk.

AS I make it with water you can take away
calories 86
fat 0.2 1/2 g
carbs 12 1/2 g
sugars 12 1/2 g
fibre 0 g
protein 85 g
salt 0.4 1/2 g
calcium 310 mg

I also take a multi vitamin so I get 100 % of any nutrients that are lost by taking water instead of the skimmed milk
I take it with water so I can get the extra 86 calories per shake that I can add to my evening meal. it makes a huge differance to the size of the meal but still staying within the 800 calories. My take on it is that over the week I have 5600 calories to use, some days I use less and I use them at a weekend as bit of a treat.
