Hi after many years of using a 6mm length needle which I use 5 a day,I was informed on my request for a repeat collection that the needle length has been put to 4mm and no choice given that is till I see my GP

Hi. I think you will find the 5mm may be discontinued and being replaced by 4mm which should be fine if your skin isn't too thick. If necessary I think you could go up to the 6mm size. BTW I only use 1 needle per day with no issues.

Hi thanks for your reply ,but I said I was using 6mm NOT 5mm

Hi Videoman - are you suggesting this is going to be an issue for you in using 4mm ? Personally 4mm has always been my weapon of choice and works great, it is standard issue as far as I am aware in the NHS now. Change is always disconcerting but it can often be for the better ;)

I've always used 8mm and my doctor did the same and changed to 4mm at the instruction of specialist...I really couldn't get on with them...although it was a different brand so not sure if that had more to do with it...but they changed it back without any agro...thankfully

Hi
Have always used 8mm, but chemist now saying 4mm is only option even though my gp says the smaller needle could affect how well the insulin enters my system.

Seeing my "new" GP in a fortnights time and yes that's how long if your request is not for urgent care, and I will ask to go back to the 6mm I have always used and I know how far I can push and get the insulin in and after 15 years of using 6mm I think that the patient should come first
