Hi, anyone got any advice to help me get a grip of my blood sugar levels? Have been told by my docs that I was type 2 for the past 4 years, only now to be told by the hospital that I am a really type1 lada. Have been started on insulin but struggle to keep blood sugar below 7. Am so fed up with low carb diets feel, so hungry all the time so end up snacking at night.

If you're hungry all the time you don't eat enough, I think. Do you need to eat high carb food to still your hunger? And what insulin regime are you on? For how long have you been on insulin? You should be able to match your insulin to your carbs after a while of finding out how much you need. It won't work perfectly all the time but you should be able to get better numbers with some practice.

You shouldn't feel hungry on low carb... That's why we up the fats; to feel full. (And not get malnourished...). Maybe the diet can be tweaked a little? More full fat, nuts, cheeses, bacon, pork scratchings, cream, eggs, fatty fish, meats? In any case, you've only just started on insulin, takes a while to get the dosage right, from what I understand. Give yourself a little time. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Sorry to hear it took them 4 years to come to the LADA conclusion though... Sheesh. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi there,
I was misdiagnosed as well, i only found out via this forum here! It took me a long time to get used to the insulin regime as well. I am on Lantus and Novorapid and finally got my sugar levels under control most of the time.
What insulins are you on and what type of snacks are eating at night?

@Jacb700 I was misdiagnosed and after nearly 4 years was rediagnosed as LADA. I am on insulin now and it's going brilliantly, though it did take a bit of time to get my doses sorted out. Are you being supported by a diabetes specialist nurse? The one I have been seeing has been invaluable.

What insulin are you taking? I am using Lantus right now and we (me and DSN) are going to look at a fast acting insulin if required.

Try not to be too despondent. You are probably doing much much better than you realise.

Keep us posted.

Hi thanks for replying, am on lantus at night and humalog, at the moment using a 4/6/6 for main meals. Just starting to feel a bit more confident to give an extra injection if bloods go above 10. Bloods have been high for so long that i feel weird if they fall below 4. Am also concerened about this as am on my own with 2 young children, so think im a bit worried about dropping too low, have had 3 hypo in 2 weeks. Snacking at the moment - grapes/small piece of Xmas cake or piece shortbread mainly in the evening. Any ideas for snacks??

Thanks so much, will keep reading posts and talking to the diabetes nurse. Hopefully will get there eventually. Realised I was on a too low carb diet, bloods dropped too low a few times which scared me, so am now probably keeping them a bit too high until I feel like I understand how the insulin works on my body. AM CARB COUNTING MAD!!

Think you're right, need to look at what I'm eating and change from what I'd been doing when I thought I was type 2. Have got a carb counting app and am trying to use this to help. Like you said, tome will help! Thanks.
