I am retired finally at 68. Was so busy at my job that didnt have time to eat. So when i did it was snacks in the car - some were healthy. As years went by and i reduced my hours and covid meant i woorked from home most of the time using my knowledge to commission and transform healthcare pathways never Diabetes as that was too close to home! So diabetes was not under good control and and about 18months ago was probably the worst they had been . Hb1aC was 99 . So that shocked me and i started to behave more professionally. So last reading was 60 achieved in 6 months. And 1.5st lighter . It was the new drug emaglaflozine taken at its lowest dose of 25mg per day that caused the change.
I started to measure my blood glucose daily and in 1 month i had readings of 5mmol to the very occaisional 15mmols average of 9.4mmols . So lets see what last weeks Hb1aC score is going to be . Trying hard to be a better more healthy person. I need a hip replacement and a hysterectomy but need to ensure my diabetes is under control and have many months to do that asi am on scottish waiting lists of up to 2 years.
I am going to read through the posts on this forum and learn something instead of wasting time on Facebook .
Happy days!

Hi Pat, welcome to the forum.

It is very helpful.

Best of Luck.

Funny how people in healthcare tend to not to care of themselves; everyone else is the priority. But now you're getting around to yourself, which is excellent! And you have time to get your blood sugars closer to the ideal, guess waiting lists have their perks.... Dubious ones, but still. In any case, congrats on the progress you've already made... Better yet to come, I'm sure.

Have a read around, and keep testing! It helps to know where you are, where you're going and where you're coming from. :) Any questions, throw them out there, there's always someone around with answers.
Hugs,
Jo

Another hello and welcome

Read around the forum and ask questions- this place is full of amazing people who are willing to listen and share their stories.

I have found the advice and support I received from this forum changed my life- I am very grateful for all those who listened to me and let me vent but encouraged me to make the changes needed.

Welcome and good luck.

Hi to all hope everyone is keeping well. I was officially diagnosed with type 2 on Friday though I did suspect it for a good while. Still hits hard when you are handed medicine and told to avoid a lot of nice stuff. Middle aged man living in central Scotland married children Grandchildren too.

Lots and lots of nice stuff you can still enjoy, so welcome to joining us and you will soon feel much more positive. We've all been where you are now and can empathise with what you are feeling. Rest assured that it isn't an end but a beginning.
