Newly diagnosed, 82 HbA1c 82 MMOL/MOL

Fasting levels on 5.8 this morning, I have never seen that, taken 4 weeks. Usually after work when I get home around 7pm its been hoovering around 5.8 before dinner but I have never seen that on fasting. Carbs drastically reduced and much more movement, i.e I work in London I now get off a station earlier by purpose and walk two minutes and wlaking after lunch as well, just adding more movement..

So whisky once a week not going to cause great harm, I'm not talking bottles I mean 3-4 doubles with water?
Despite collecting whiskies (I have about 100 bottles!) I think I've only had one dram since I was diagnosed - the next morning's fasted reading was actually the lowest I've seen so far, which may or may not have been helped by the whisky.

I've stopped drinking beer completely for now (but might reconsider the occasional pint in the future) and instead have switched to the occasional glass or two or red wine as my main tipple.

I've stopped beer as well. May resume the whisky soon. One thing I've been thinking about with T2 wild spread all over the globe I would have thought a wonder drug was available to reverse this.

No chance, there's no money in a cure, but plenty in a captive market. Their interest is in keeping us alive as long as possible, to maximise profits. That's why so much money is spent, rubbishing low carb and Keto.

Go careful. When you go very low carb it also makes you a lightweight for alcohol. The first drinks I had after changing diet hit me very hard.

Morning guys, so I find my Glucose meter is being strange, first prick 6.8 and then 2nd one 6.1 so i just averaged it to 6.5. Firstly are these numbers a disaster for fasting levels 6am in the morning?

2ndly the meter was provided by my dad, am I eligeable for a meter from my GP? If not which ones do people reccomend?

That depends on your GP (worth asking but I wouldn't hold your breath). If your aren't on hypo inducing meds they don't have to give you one.

I'll tag @Rachox to give you the latest info on self funding UK meters.

The difference is within the 15% tolerance of the meters. You could test the same drop of blood twice with the same meter and see that sort of difference. They simply aren’t 100% precise.

And no not a disaster at all. Obviously it will be better once they are lower but morning fasting are often the last to come into line regardless of how good the rest of the day is. It can take many months not weeks. Think of it as a rough guide to how insulin resistant you are. You’ve only just started this and this is pretty darned good from where you started just a short time ago.

Your numbers are definitely not a disaster especially for someone just starting to get to grips with things.
Fasting levels are always the last to come down and they are pretty much out of our control.
All we can do is concentrate on keeping our levels as low as possible throughout the day. Hopefully that will improve your insuln resistance and your fasting levels will come down.
The readings from both meters are in the same range, you could take two readings with the same meter using the same drop of blood and get similar results.
The meters are just not that accurate and only give an idea of where our sugar levels are.

Thanks for the tag @EllieM
