Hi please has anyone got any advice. I've just been started in Metformin . Started one daily then increased to twice daily. On Saturday I started with what I felt like restless legs which seemed to travel throughout my body.. I have been in an adgitated state ever since plus a heaviness feeling on my chest. Like I'm suffering from anxiety but I know I'm not. Has anybody else felt like this. Could it be the medication?
I don't know about the restlessness, but the tightness in your chest is listed as a possible side effect of metformin. You can do a couple of things: Call your doc and ask whether you can have 3 month's grace to see whether you can tackle this through diet rather than medication. A lot of people here are medication and complication free, with blood sugars in the normal range, just because they (we) changed the way we ate. I had other side effects than yours, but they, for me, were a reason to look elsewhere. And never, EVER take chest discomfort lightly. Second option; call the doc, tell them about the chest especially, and ask for different medication. Don't accept Metformin SR or a variant of that, it's only useful if the side effects you're suffering from are gastro-intestinal, and that's not the case here. You probably want to be off the metformin asap, in either case, whatever you choose.
https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html <-- have a read here. It explains a bit about T2, and how you can tackle it without medication. (Mind you, you want your doc to sign off on you trying diet-only). Also, it'll give you the basics on how to eat so your blood sugars don't spike. And order yourself a meter, you're going to need it.
You're going to be okay, but please, get in touch with your surgery about the side effects asap.
Hugs,
Jo
