My Bgs have been seriously off today, it's unusual and I've tried not to be worried but I am.
Despite plugging away with Novorapid
13.45 = 1N @6.4
15.45 =1n @7.2
17.25= 1N @ 7.1
18.30= 6.6
It's not going down
Food intake was some goose and some beans................... a bit bad at 13.45
it doesn't seem right, it's too high and Novo isn't doing the biz.
Feel useless and am thinking that the best way to sort this is just to stop insulin and at least I'll lose some weight.
So upset

Those numbers look ok to me, you look like your mid table, what do you want the numbers to be at?

Wouldn't stop the insulin mind you as you may find those numbers double up fairly quickly.

Hi. If insulin is causing you weight gain then you may well be having too many carbs? Insulin itself doesn't cause weight gain but it enables the carbs you do eat to metabolise the carbs. What sort of diet do you have?

Hi @SueJB
I know that you worry about weight gain and are usually pretty low carb. To me the numbers look great. So I guess my question might be - How was your T1 diagnosis confirmed? Could you actually be T2? In which case the insulin issue needs a talk through with your docs.
Please don't just stop the insulin get advice/support regarding numbers, weight, and the big picture.

Stupid, isn't it, when diabetes doesn't play by the rules!
What about seeing if your numbers are better tomorrow or alternatively if you have a cold or UTI tomorrow? Take a deep breath and try to convince yourself that stuff just happens sometimes. Especially with diabetes.
Don't get yourself lured into rage bolusing, the last bolus seems to be doing something, give it time!

Hi Sue, are you fairly newly diagnosed?, the honeymoon period could still be in the game! No matter what I do insulin or food wise, my 'default' BG number sits around 6. If I take more insulin, sure they drop to 4 but an hour later, back up to 6 they go. If I don't take insulin and food raises it to 8, well an hour or 2 later, yep, it's back at 6. Take a shot before bed, still 6 in the morning. Don't take a shot before bed, still around 6 in the morning. I could spend every waking moment 'forcing' it to be around 4 but it likes being at 6 and in the end I've got more than that to worry about!!!! I truly think we each have a certain tolerance level no matter what we do and our very individual bodies simply refuse to play ball. I think of it a bit like cholesterol, there is no exact, perfect number, just a number that is ok for our bodies. Is there a reason you don't like being between 6 and 8 as a type 1?, yes, it would be lovely to be a normal 4.4 constantly but unfortunately you have diabetes and there is only so much you can do without becoming seriously depressed. Don't get me wrong, I do strive to keep it in the 4s and 5s, but on the days when it gives me the finger (usually when I don't exercise), well, there's always tomorrow. Please don't think I'm being flippant but I would not worry about higher than usual numbers on one day, especially when they look like yours. I suspect you are following Bernstein and are very harsh on yourself when it doesn't work exactly. x

Hi @SueJB I will be honest i’d love those numbers, am currently sat at 8.9 and just ate cheese for tea so no carbs at all - even with a correction dose it’s not come down.

Happy to swap but as far as I can see your doing fine.

I agree with the others that your BG figures don’t look too bad at all.
If you find you are doing too many correction blouses, it could be because your basal is too low.
This could be a general thing or it could be due to your body fighting off a bug.

Thanks all for your comments and support and sensible ideas.
@Knikki I want my numbers to be 4s and 5s
@Daibell I only eat between 30-50 carbs a day, clearly not true over Christmas I'd say I a flexible low carb
@Diakat My T1 was suspected by my doctor, sent straight to hospital and then confirmed by OCDEM consultant. Why do you ask if I could be T2?
@ANTJE wise words as always
Thanks @KK123. I was diagnosed in Aug 2017 so probably still honeymooning. I agree theoretically with the idea of tolerance but find it hard in practice.
@helensaramay , it could be a bug.

The thing that worries me all the time is in 16 months since diagnosis my weight has gone up by 11k. The only change is I eat even fewer carbs than I did before diagnosis.

Hi @SueJB It crossed my mind because you have previously said that with low carb you can often avoid the need for bolus and because the numbers that you repost are always so good. Most T1s see numbers in the teens now and then and even those on low carb need to inject. I am not a medic so that was why I asked how diagnosis was made.

Hi Sue, you were diagnosed the same time as me then. Another thought if you had more carbs than usual over Xmas (as did I). I noticed if I do have a day or two of higher carbs, the next 2 to 3 days at least are always higher readings, up by around 2mmols. It seems to manifest in the days following the higher carbs, I think the day you mentioned was a day just after xmas? How are they now?

Thanks and quite right @Diakat. I have been known to go into the teens and I do have to bolus blast on occasions even on low carb if my BG is high and I'm eating a higher percentage of carb

Nice thought @KK123 and you may well be right. My original post was 28th. Yesterday afternoon BG 14.6 &12.8 (bolus blaster to the rescue)but dropped eventually to 6.7
Still high this morning 7.8
Just fed up with getting fat with no change of diet
