Hi All,

I was newly diagnosed with Type 2 a couple of days ago. to be honest it didn't come as a shock as my lifestyle was pretty bad. Very sedentary, with virtually no exercise. I wouldn't say my eating habits were "bad" just portion control is lacking, combined with seconds, and sometimes thirds.

My hba1c reading was 103, I know that it should be under 48, but not sure if that is really high or not!

Cholesterol is quite high too (6.1), not surprising as I love dairy food, cheese, and drink a lot of milk.

I have been put on medication (metformin, and Forxiga) would appreciate any shared experiences of those two drugs. Also Atorvastatin for the cholesterol.

My BMI is just over 30 pushing me into the "obese" category, so I know that I will have to get off my butt and do some exercise.

Cheers,

Pete

Hi and welcome. Although exercise is very good the most important step in losing weight is to keep the carbs down in your diet as they are the main cause of weight gain and high BS. Set yourself a daily target for the carbs of perhaps 150gm or less. It may be as the weight comes down you can stop one or both of the diabetes drugs. You may also find the cholesterol ratios improve as dairy is not the villain that we have all been told

Hi @PeteWhite67

Sadly, a welcome to the forum
But in my mind THE best thing to happen since your DX.

A couple of points

103, is pretty high, but many others been similar and they got theirs down successfully...no reason why you can't

My bloods were dire after 8 years of eating all the things I THOUGHT & was told were healthy
(Low fat, low cal )

6 months LCHF got every marker in my blood tests into optimal or good inside 6 months .

No guarantees, but useful to know it worked for at least one .

As for dairy...life long asthmatic, told to avoid dairy, as it produces mucus and blogs up our lungs.

Since going LCHF my asthma has dramatically receeded, and on LCHF I eat WAY more cheese & dairy then I ever have ..go figure

All of which adds up to ..
Go & look into it.
I did, & Dipped a toe in, and before too long I was fully into it.

From 58 to 40 in just over 6 months.
Others started higher & did it quicker.
We all find our own way.

We can't diagnose or prescribe on the forum, but we can point people to threads that may help them understand some things better

Chances are LCHF might improve your T2D HBA1c scores, & lowering your daily BG levels might also just improve your cholesterol ratios
(It can be argued cholesterol number by itself is worthless as it's a decent guess at best)

Search the forum, I believe @bulkbiker has made a cracking guide to helping understand Cholesterol numbers .

Good luck finding a way that works for you .

Has anyone taking Forxiga had problems with Thrush ?. I have been on metformin for a couple of years and my A1C has recently risen to 8.1, so Doc has prescribed 5mg Forxiga with my metformin, would love to hear other peoples experience. I am not a newbie, have been on this forum for five years, but the software locked me out so I had to re-apply membership
