I'm running out of things to eat. I'm wheat and gluten intolerant , lactose intolerant and on low carb diet. Their saying red meat, cheese and even milk is as bad as smoking. What is left. Oh and sugar and salt of course. Don't know about anybody else but it gets me down.

I sometimes think blow it I'm eating what I want!

If we listened to what the media says, we wouldn't be able to eat anything. We also wouldn't be able to drink anything, because even water contains too many *add pollutants of your choice*. We shouldn't breath air, because it's got too many *add pollutants of your choice*. And we really shouldn't do anything, because it's all fraught with danger, uncertainty and generally unhealthy.

Does anyone have a spare bubble? I may go and live in it.

Hi Lilliepop

Have you made an actual list of everything you CAN eat? You may be surprised :)

Here's a response to that 'study'

Don't forget that it was an observational study, which means it wasn't controlled, and they asked people what they ate on 1 day and extrapolated that to mean they ate the same thing over 18 years. I can't see any problems making definitive statements like 'protein is as bad as smoking' with that can you? Oh, wait a minute...

Console yourself with the fact that you are normal. The genes which allow adults to digest milk are relatively new mutations and only a few thousand years old. For most humans and most of history, lactose intolerance is/was the norm.

Another scientist remarked that the recent study telling us high protein may cause an increased cancer risk in certain age groups was flawed as he believes it is more than likely the chemicals/growth hormones etc that is artificially added to the meat. If we eat organic meat the risk is removed. I agree with others though, probably just a headline grabber rather than valid scientific fact.

Whilst on the subject of protein, I have a note in my diary saying the RDA of protein is 0.75grms per kilo of body weight. Not sure if this is for everyone, or women of my age (66) and activity level. It equates to 57grms for me. What do the rest of you eat? The NHS do say that as a nation, the British eat far too much.

My gp has always said to me "high protein, high fibre and low fat is a healthy girl!"

I don't why they just don't say eating food and drinking anything is bad for us and have done with it
