Olympics

I love the Olympics! When the torch came past my street I saw more neighbours all out watching than I had seen for about a year! My daughter rowed alongside the Gloriana as part of the torch escort - 18 kms - and I stood for 2 hours on Hammersmith Bridge to see her and it was worth every minute. I waited in the sun and the rain to see the the mens and womens road race (even though they went by very quickly), I am going to Wimbledon tomorrow and to see the rowing on Thursday, Football at Wembley on Saturday and Hockey on Monday. If I could have afforded it I would have tried to get more.... but I feel lucky to have got what I have. It wont happen again here in my lifetime and I feel proud to be a small part of it. :D

Total waste of money!
It is 'playing' games…
You play games and spend money on recreation when…
You have fed the children…
OAPs have enough money to switch on another bar on the fire…
You don't have to sell your house to raise the money for that operation or course of drugs, or buy testing strips!
I could go on…

I'm with you on this one. TV coverage, whilst I understand that we have to cover everything - being the host country, is driving me mad. I have resorted to spending my 6 week school holiday doing long-neglected chores like filing, form filling, cleaning blah blah blah. I guess my hatred of sport comes from a teenage trauma of being picked on by my PE teacher. She actually told me to perform my gym routine infront of the whole class. I was so proud. Then she got another girl to do hers and asked the class to spot the difference...mine being 'how NOT to do it.' I then got fat and lost interest in anything physical.

Anyway, I DO wish GB well and I DO appreciate their hours of training, skill etc as BF describes. But I just don't want it dominating my life in my precious summer holls. News today that London tourism was suffering and streets were empty did give me a wry smile. Is that unkind?

Yours cynically

Well done to the two ladies, they were awesome   I get a bit over excited watching, shouting, come come, you can do it, go, go, go, but they got the bronze. I did feel for them though, their faces said it all  RRB

I watch the table tennis semis & finals - looks like very questionable umpiring affected the final. Why should a competitor get a red card for asking why she was faulted? The Italian umpire couldn't answer in Chinese.

Well Bradley Wiggins won as well.    I think he's a great guy!

Gemma Gibbons deserved her silver in Judo today, thought it was touching when she paid tribute to her late Mum who introduced her to the sport.
