The LBGTQs have come out from the closet where they hid themselves for many years. Those with diabetes have been hidden under the stairs by society as the 'parental' authority. We are looked at and talked to by many people including those in the medical profession as if we have caused this disease to ourselves and we could have prevented it ourslves. It's time we came out from under the stairs (certainly in Canada where I live) and started to talk openly and without embarassment about our condition and the pain and suffering that can be caused. My last specialist said "I cannot do anything more for you. You are on your own." That is how society and the medical profession want us to feel. This forum is great for us to speak to others in a similar situation but it's time we grabbed attention in other media as well. I think there are more of us than LBGTQs so it's time society, the medical profession and the big drug companies started to listen to us.

Members here have recently been reaching out to the UK media to tell their T2 remission stories.

Although it is easy to think that the medical profession is being judgemental - a lot of people experience similar comments - its not you, its them.
You have seen a specialist - you might even have seen your GP since diagnosis - I haven't seen mine - he doesn't want to see me - and the nurses just said well done but you should take statins. I was called to an associate practice to see a doctor who never even mentioned diabetes but wanted to put me on statins.
There are HCPs who seem to be made of different stuff and who are as different from mine as chalk from cheese - but I remind myself of my objectives by visiting the forum and let those who don't care go on as best they can. Hopefully their days are numbered.

Why did your specialist tell you that?
Perhaps because I asked questions he couldn't answer - Why does my BG go up when I increase my insulin? Is it because my body produces more glucose or less insulin as a result? Answer: No..er..yes..er..the first..er no the second..er!
I also said that the self-treatment required of diabetics is medieval and barbaric and probablu constituted cruel and unusual punishment.

I see - you were a difficult patient by asking questions and offering opinions. The doctor who first diagnosed me told me to find a new doctor when I asked him to give me a referral to the diabetes clinic.

I bit like teachers. They always have an answer and it is always correct. I come from a family of teachers so know what I am saying. My specialist was also a teacher.

I don't think you understood the basic rationale for the thread. Stated otherwise, it is:

1. LBGTQ people have become more vocal, especially confronting ignorance about how and why they are LGBTQ

so therefore

2. People with Diabetes should become more vocal, especially when confronted with idiocy about being shamed from ignorance about being Diabetic.

I would add a third statement

3. SOME people with Diabetes, especially if they are type 2, young, physically resilient, have few comorbidities and newly diagnosed, can enjoy going into a fairly rapid remission by following certain dietary and fasting regimes. For others, certain of these protocols can help their difficult struggles and are therefor worth a try.
You got exactly what I meant, especially when the negative reactions come from the medical profession as they should know better.
