Pedometer Challenge Thread

I wanted to have a run today. But woke to 14.4 so corrected. 3 hours later I'm 17.9

Seems insulin is not my friend today.

You'll find me bashing my head again a the wall!

The guidelines may say no, but that's exactly when I'd be going for a run, unless ill of course.

I've used a good run as a BG management tool several times when I've screwed up my dosage.

My BG rises when I run and stays up for a few hours so that would have aggravated the situation!

I thought it was a bad vial of insulin, seems the honeymoon has actually ended. Looks like I'll be taking levemir by the bucket from now on!

You'd be surprised. I keep having spurts of increased activity where I can't keep th eBG above 5, followed by days where I'm struggling to keep it below 7. I think the end of the honeymoon phase is a continuum rather than dropping off a cliff, in my experience anyway.

If your BG always rises when you run, then I'd say you're running too hard and going anaerobic rather than aerobic

HR is generally 75-80%. I "run" slower than I walk. It is a constant struggle.

2u levemir has left me hypo recently, last 2 days I've not been below 10. Correcting at every meal and between (DAFNE would kill me) but I'm regularly 15-17. Upped basal to 2.5 and no luck so cranking it up again tonight. I thought it would be more gradual but it doesn't appear so for me!

10139 steps for me yesterday.

Was back to really healthy eating again as I had been letting it slide. Too many snacks based on 'just one won't matter '
Which is what got me here in the first place.

You may be better off just going for an hour's walk to start with, build up stamina adn time on your feet, get the HR up to a good 130-140 or so and you'll get a training effect and can progress from there.

As for me, this morning woke at 5.2, OK. Breakfast two slices german rye bread toasted, with PB and cheese (not together) plus an oatcake. Normally gives me a good rise at 2hr. Today 9am, 4.2. Off for a fig roll to go with my coffee :mad:

Walk the dog for an hour regularly. Walking is noooo problem. Swimming? Easy peasy.

Light jog though? Shambles!

On the treadmill I was able to pace myself and keep hr around 155-160 and was quite comfortable. Sadly where I live is all hills which I think is the issue!

Just run down the hills, avoid going up them at all costs ;-)

I try to work out the route so I go UP near the start and so it's DOWN home again when I'm getting tired. Kind of works. Kind of doesn't lol

HR 155-160 is too high, you need to take 15bpm off the top of that range and be brutal about sticking to it. . If that means you walk, then you walk.

Defeats the purpose of signing up to run a 5K though, I already know I can walk it

My HRM is a super cheap one though, so it could be wildly inaccurate. Cruddy watch one

April 26th

I can currently run 2.8K, I'm out of breath but not horrifically so. It's pain in my foot that makes me stop usually.

In theory I'll be running the whole way by the end of next month. In theory!

Hmmm!

Much as I admire your tenacity for doing it, I think you need a proper plan to do it well without injuring yourself. Have you looked at a C25K plan?
 
Late joiner to this thread as I only installed Pacer on my iPhone yesterday. I logged 11707 steps today walking along the beach, felt much more than hat as quite a lot of it was on shingle following the storms we've had recently.

I do have a question though if anyone has the necessary knowledge, I usually do rowing as my main cardio activity, can anyone tell me what the equivalent step count would be for say an 8km row? HR monitor gives me about 425 cals effort for 8km if that helps. Pacer allows additional cardio work to be entered but seems to want to know the steps equivalent, there is no rowing option.

Found the C25K voice annoying haha

I have a close friend who's a personal trainer so I'm following a plan she set (I'm two weeks behind in it though shhh!)

Unfortunately the only solution to the foot is to visit the podiatrist and bankrupt myself with insoles for a fallen arch. Only hurts when I run. Been assured I'm not causing damage, just causing myself pain!
