A local would say Saap'ston rather than Sapiston!

I live in Norfolk and we have loads of these, for example Happisburgh- pronounced Haze-bru, also Wymondham, pronounced Wind-am, Costessey pronounced Cossy is another.
Also Garboldisham becomes Garble-shum.
Love from Ixworth, across the Iceni boarder!

One of my favourite counties for bizarre spelling/pronunciation (prashun?) has to be Kent. Apart from Wrotham which is Root'em, there is Trottiscliffe (pronounced Trozlee) which is less than a mile from Trosley (Trozlee) Park. Ightham is pronounced Item!

Leigh (Lancs) --> Lee
but elsewhere --> Lie

ETA there used to be a (Lancashire) LeighToaster cheese so strong it used to take the skin off the roof of my mouth!
