I just came back from trying on clothes in the thrift shop. Six years ago, when I first moved here, a new neighbor gave me a pair of jeans that she couldn't wear anymore, having lost weight. I could just barely get into them, and couldn't button or zip them up.

Last April I was diagnosed T2, and lost 25 pounds over the summer. Now the jeans I couldn't even get into 6 years ago are way too big so I went shopping to see what size I wear now. The first pair I tried on were 2 sizes smaller and I could button and zip them but they are too tight to breathe in. The second pair was one size larger than the first pair, and fit, snugly, but fit.

So I came home feeling positive. I've only lost about half the weight I want to lose, and I don't like having a nice pair of jeans I can't wear anywhere, but I love that the reason I can't wear them is that instead of being too small to button, they are too big to stay up!

I will be donating them to the thrift shop once I replace them.

That's great. I am in the middle too. My clothes are too big but don't want to buy new yet till I can get stable. I want to stay at 34 waist. Well the wife has said that I'm stopping lol.

I was struggling to do up 36" jeans last November. Now I comfortably fit into 32" and I haven't done that for over 45 years.
The best thing is that that I never feel hungry on my LCHF diet.

Wonderful progress!

My current clothing is from thrift stores as my original clothing is too big. I occasionally buy clothing that just a bit small and try it on once a week. It's very satisfying when you fit into something that was previously too tight.

Thanks, everybody. :)

I have been reading that eating fat does not make a person fat. Fat doesn't make fat cells, but carbs do? If that's the case, I think I will try eating hf as well as lc and see if I can lose more weight. I am so happy that despite the carbs I ate this weekend (Thanksgiving weekend here) I didn't gain any weight! But if eating fat won't make fat cells, and will help keep me from getting hungry, I want to try it. I want to convert from carb fuel to fat fuel.

I might be a bit unusual as I can make or remake garments for myself - though the first clothes I threw out as too big were dreadfully old and baggy, stained or torn - I had been getting so depressed on the diet to lower cholesterol which wasn't working.
I have discovered the local Scrapstore gets all sorts of things given to them, including knitting supplies and yarn, fabrics, ribbons, fastenings, patterns and 'how to' books.
I have made myself new clothes or unmade the more decent older ones, and found that I can now buy underwear in supermarkets rather than specialist shops - the latest purchase Lidl sports bras - have encouraged a distinct increase in dancing.

Eating anything will not make fat cells - after the first year of life the fat cells do not multiply, they simply expand or contract.

What can I eat that has good fat? No avocados, please! I do eat nuts though they are hard on my teeth.

What’s your definition of good fat?
I don’t eat vegetable or seed oils, but I use bacon or duck fat to roast cauliflower and radishes.
I havent upped my fat consumption as I never ate low fat but I cut out all carbs from grains and root vegetables other the radishes. Once every month I have a few roast potatoes I have kept the 50 pounds I lost two years ago off.

anything with fat, really - people do label fats as 'good' or 'bad' but there is little evidence to show that there is a biological advantage to any in particular. If there is - I have not found it yet.
I did find a little snippet of information which amused me, that 50 percent of the people who died of heart attacks had above average levels of cholesterol - I can't find it again now I want it - the information was put forward as proof that it was bad - but of course, the other half had below average levels - which would tend to imply that there is no protective effect at all from having low cholesterol.....

Yes, the "good" and "bad" fat labels confuse me because some places I read that animal fats are bad while vegetable fats are good; other places I don't read about about any difference. Some diabetes sites say plant oils are better than butter; others say butter is fine.

Several years ago a doctor told me I had too much fat in my blood and to start walking a lot. He didn't say anything about blood sugar content. He didn't prescribe any anti-fat drugs either.

One diabetes site says that the fat a person eats doesn't turn into fat cells to make the eater fat.

So I'm confused. I've been overweight all my life so far -- not obese, just, well, fat. But a lot of my over-weight has been muscle, not actually fat.

Oh, I don't know. I just liked what @Dexterdobe posted about not being hungry on an LCHF diet.

@Resurgam, I think you are right in being unusual in this day and age in being able to make and remake clothes for youself. My mother was a wonderful seamstress and made all our clothes when I was growing up. I wish I sewed better than I do, but the fabric stores are disappearing and I've found that by the time I could find fabric and a pattern I wouldn't save any money over just buying ready-made clothes. But making my own woudl sure give me a better selection!

I started making clothes for dollies so long ago that I would not know where to suggest starting to learn - there must be some resources on line - or maybe classes locally?

My mother taught me but I wasn't exactly a quick learner at sewing. I can do hand sewing now. I know "what" to do, but it's getting a nice-looking result that is hard for me. I did take Home Ec one semester in high school. We had to make a pillow cover and a jumper. :(
Mama could do everything -- beautiful embroidery, quilting, bound buttonholes, suits, slipcovers, doll clothes ...
I can make belt loops, and sew a straight seam, and do hemming with almost-invisible stitches.
But getting the patterns to lie flat on the fabric on the table, and stay put while being pinned, and basted ...
And forget trying to match plaids! :)
I learned how to darn socks a couple of years ago but I never could find a darning egg. Someone told me to use a lightbulb ... !?

I saw a photo of the Queen the other day, wearing a lovely rose-colored suit. The first thing I noticed was the bound buttonholes. :)

I doubt she makes her own :hilarious:

I did needlework at school. We had to make a dress at one stage. Mine looked more like a pillow case. My mum couldn't sew either. I am ashamed to say I possess one needle and 2 bobbins of thread - one white and one black. The needle is most likely rusty by now. I am perfectly capable of sewing a button on, and even a zip, but I hate it so I never bother.
