Well done you, what a great idea, definitely something that will be a great help for new members. A way to find inspiration and motivation. Also great for those who have doubts or have lost their way a little bit, seeing and reading “real life stories” is such a positive way of getting the message across, it proves it works and that as individuals we all have varying tales and experiences even though our common ground is similar. As forum members now have a few articles under our belts we thought it might be a good idea for them to be linked to a specific thread on the forum for all to see, and also share where possible.
I'm going to kick this thread off. I'm so very happy to do so.
Many from this forum want to help spread the LCHF word in the hope of turning that Titanic so that diabetes is treated by all HCP's appropriately. At the moment t2d is classed as a progressive disease. The advice is to follow the eatwell plate way of eating which includes lots of starchy carbs and to cut down on sugars and fats. For t2d 'no need to finger prick test' unless on specific meds including insulin! No wonder it's classed as progressive. Knowing your blood sugar levels is the only way in my opinion of managing your diabetes. I think most of us on here feel all diabetics should have access to test strips on prescription (You can get monitors free a lot of the time). That needs to change to.
Diabetics themselves realise it does not have to be progressive if you follow a low carb woe. This woe is not only crucial to get blood sugars under control for t2d but also incredibly beneficial for t1s.
I started my diabetes journey in December 2017 when I was diagnosed t2. I found diabetes.co.uk by chance and a way to put it into remission by eating LCHF which I was able to do within 6 months. As a bonus I lost over 3 stone (51 lbs to be exact). I wrote in the forum success stories about having to buy a whole new wardrobe as nothing fitted. I was contacted by the press side of DCUK asking if I would like to share my story. I could not wait. Hoping to help others on my journey.
Others have also been contacted and their stories will also be linked in here.
So my first article was in my local Gazette. Here is the link:

Hi @Debandez, I would just suggest caution about how one promotes who LCHF diets are good for.
There has been caution in some reports about the safety and wisdom of use of LCHF with persons who are diabetic and pregnant and in children with diabetes. Of course LCHF diets whilst shown by example to be effective in T1Ds, (like on this forum) but we do not know if it is suitable or safe for all T1Ds and others on insulin.
I am aware that some authorities (including at least one national health profession regulatory authority in Australia) use these doubts/cautions as a way to 'hose down' the benefits of LCHF. It is scurrilous that this authority (and perhaps others) is sponsored/supported by Big Food but that this fact is not declared.
In short, I just ask to keep the PR as factual and accurate as possible. ? Pre-diabetic/T2D/? others on insulin - (T1D ? Lada ? MODY only if it can be properly documented).
I would doubt that those with T3D are suitable for the LCHF diet but a professional opinion is needed.
I recall there was a thread where the mother asking why her specialist was resistant to her idea of putting her ? 16 year old T1D son on a LCHF diet.
One respondent recommended that she go ahead. I disagree strongly with this (and reported the incident but received no reply that I am aware of). None of us can recommend such a thing and I would object to any PR push for LCHF use in children and adolescents without erudite, unbiased professional advice. I have past experience with seeing people extol the virtues of their treatment to the point that their proof of success is illusory, deliberately or unconsciously biased, and misleading.
I wish you all success and am happy to add my personal support for my own situation as a TID for 51 years who has only fairly recently taken on a consistent LCHF diet.
