I eat Grenade Carb Killa protein bars because they are sugar free. They do however contain Polyols as sweetener, which some people find raise their blood sugars just as if it was sugar. I however don’t get any blood sugar rise. The only way to find out if they affect you is to test before and after trying one.
I have nothing to say about protein shakes, I don’t use them!
With regard to fruit, I only eat berries as they are lower in carbs.

Good to point out the polyols - Carb Killa bars are about 20-25% polyols,, so for me (T1) they contain equivalent to 15g carbs per bar. Great for my bike ride but otherwise I'd rather have an apple.

Not all T1's are the same.
I do not need insulin for polyols, and they don't raise my numbers as far as I'm aware.

Regular bars and drinks will be high in carbs,

So it’s a case of !yes with caution’
You’ll need to read the labels to see the carb and sugar content and decide from there, you can the test a product and see what effect it has on you

If you are going high protein because you exercise and want it for muscle growth you may find some carbs are ok as you may burn them off…. Again only bg testing will tell you what ‘you’ can eat

bg means blood glucose or blood sugar (sometimes referred to as finger prick tests). This is the only way of knowing for sure how your body deals with these kinds of food and drinks.

I don't eat any protein bars/drinks. That's not because I've tested them and found they affect my BG. I try to stick to stuff that where possible isn't made in a factory.

So I would prefer nuts, cheese or salami as a snack and coffee, iced tea, soda water etc to drink. I very rarely have any fruit at all (one apple would pretty much take up my daily carb target on its own) but I will sometimes have berries, usually with cream.

I ate some Atkins bars with polyols in, just once - I thought I would become Geography, I swelled up so much. The flora and fauna in my gut had a real party.
When eating to the rules of my post diagnosis to get remission schedule, I ate twice a day and had protein and fat with no more than 50 gm, then 40 gm of carbs - once I adapted to that I did not need to think about food all day, so it was very handy.
Eight years later I am now fasting for 22hours a day - eating is considered such a vital part of our lives, but the less I eat the less important it becomes.
Fruits which are not sweet or starchy might be possible to cope with every day - courgette sweet pepper tomato cucumber avocado are all fruits which should be fine for most people to eat every day.
