Hypos, rude people, ignorance and grey days.
i'm now into my second week on the pump, so far it's going great, however I did an infusion set change this afternoon and since then I've been running high, the set is pumping insulin ok, but I'm still using my insulin vial from last week, could this of gone off or is there any other reason why I'm now in my high teens ?

Any help would be appreciated as I don't know what to do

If it was me and my sugars were high, I'd change the set asap. Sometimes you just get a 'bad' spot that doesn't absorb well.

Edited to add, I'd also check for ketones and correct with a pen if necessary to get some insulin in there and working. If the pen correction doesn't work, you then know there's something else going on eg illness.

Could be a kinked cannula, could simply be the inflammation of putting in a new cannula causing a level of insulin resistance.

Have you tried a bolus to being yourself down to determine whether anything is getting through?

Lol !!! Yes am tempted to just change everything include the insulin, how long does insulin last in the vial, my DSN said it would be OK for a month ? Am down to 15.7 now but also not sure if it was air, I did prime the cannula before I attached the infusion set, guess it's one of those learning curves. I am out shooting tonight so having high bg means poor vision, not good.. Thanks everyone

If your cartridge is plastic the insulin should be changed within 7 days.... If it is glass the same as pens etc.. 28days at room tempeeature.

Actual time for you to use it up is obviously down to how much you are using each day.

Hope you're not cheating with night sensory focus's on your gun!!

Did you fill cannula once the new set was put in? Also, I was told to change everything, including reservoir with new insulin, every 3 days which I do as the insulin doesn't last as long in the plastic reservoir as it does in glass bottle. :-)

make sure when changing to fill canulla too, if i was in this position i'd change my set into a new spot and use a different cartridge.

Depending on what pump you're using, i am using prefilled and they must be out the fridge for atleast 45mins befor i put it in pump.

Realised this is from a little while ago so hopefully you're all sorted now but I was going to add......This happened to me a few weeks into starting the pump last year, I just couldn't get my sugars down significantly. As everyone has said change canula, change cartridge, test for ketones, I also experienced issues with air bubbles a few times, so definately worth checking that. In my case it turned out that being ill the week before had then translated to the need to increase my basal by 20% a week later. But rule out the equipment first. I was starting to freak out as it happened to me between dinner and bed and was still not good in the morning, but I was able to speak to my team who really helped me out.
