Question about test strip containers

Hey guys I have a question for you I know what the manufacturer says about this but have any of you kicking test strips out of the vial and put them into a more convenient container that is just as waterproof. The ones that I get like most are in a small round vial kind of like 35 mm film would have come in but I really like the more flat containers that would fit in the case that I've chosen, kind of like the ones that you would see with the Accu-Check.

I think they are best kept in their original containers, exposing them to the air and touching them to move them over may cause contamination. They are very sensitive and putting them into a different container may not protect them the same

I have a Caresens Dual meter. The strips come in a container like you describe. The lid is not just a thin plastic top but appears to have space for ‘something’, which I suspect is a dessicant to keep the strips super dry.

I find the empty tubs very useful for storing all sorts of things - but no, I wouldn't transfer the strips to another container by choice.

In addition my test kit pouch has an elastic strap that exactly fits the tub.

Mine exactly fit half a tube of glucotabs....

BUt I end up with so many that I do have to throw them out. Unfortunately I don't think the containers are recyclable...

I use them for things like seeds, small screws and bits, all sorts. Write on the lids with a Sharpie. Put them in a box, forget all about them.

My hubby uses my empty ones for stuff like that too, when I had my craft business I use too put all sorts of bits & bobs in them like gems, bows etc and label them with my sharpie, they are very useful little pots

I've only got a few tubs left now after using cassettes for the last few years and now a Libre 2 but the ones I have got I fill with glucose powder and have them spread about the house , in my pockets , in my car etc .

I peel the labels and donate them (with other random things like yogurt pots ) to a local nursery school for their craft area. A staff member told me they use them for small amounts of PVA glue for individual children and they are super grateful. Apparently they haven't had anything like it since the wee cases camera films came in.

Test strip suppliers have gone to some expense providing suitable storage containers which account for some of their cost, so no, I prefer to leave the strips in situ. The tub fits snugly into my test kit case, although that's a minor consideration. IMO, the strips are best handled as little as possible.

As others have noted, there are scores of ways to reuse these robust little containers.

I use the empties for my tiny beads, pins, needles spare buttons sewing things etc. Label them up and hey presto

Back when I was at uni, I once ran out of strips and was having trouble getting a new script filled in time. My parents on hearing about this helpfully sent me the backup supply I had at their house, however, to post them easier, they emptied the whole pot into a wrap of paper and put that in an envelope!

Judging by the above advice it may be best to stick with the original container, but if you 'really' need a small flat container, you should take a look at the small 'travel cases' that seem to come with dental hygiene sticks - tooth picks. I use the little silicon sticks and the case they provide looks ideal for a few test strips.

I know they are more expensive and part of me dislikes the extra waste but the Freestyle Optium test strips are individually wrapped so I can put 5 in my wallet when I go out. This is far more convenient that the tubes which rattle and take up far more space.
Likewise, I find the meters cases are too bulky so they get chucked. You’d be surprised how rugged a little Freestyle Optium Neo meter is. As it is relatively slim, it slips into a pocket in my coat or work bag when I go out.
