Type 2 Raised blood sugar level

Hi all
I have T2, not on medication and usually successfully control my levels by diet alone. I have been on holiday and had more carbs than usual. Upon my return my sugar level is a constant 16-18 day and night, fast reading etc

I usually control my carb intake but has a holiday binge broken me!! I have never experienced readings at this level before...

Thoughts please?

Broken you no, but the increased carb intake may have put extra stress on the pancreas and increased insulin resistance....

How long have you been back/

Time to do the opposite and cut out the carbs and reduce your resistance a bit...

I have been back 4 days now. I didn't go silly on holiday just more than normal. I think bread is the main culprit!! I was having sandwiches during the day for picnics etc. I will monitor and hopefully it will drop again. It's the fact I haven't seen it consistently high before. Thanks for you comments

There is never a break from this. No bread no matter what. Good care :)

Just a few questions, more to eliminate possibilities than to make suggestions :)

Any chance you have picked up an infection? Could be anything from gut problems, gum disease, virus, or even an infected insect bite? That can raise blood glucose significantly
Any chance your strips were exposed to heat (left in the sun on hol?) that can cause inaccurate readings
Are you stressed?
and finally, what do you consider to be your usual daily readings? how much higher than usual are they at the moment?

:)

Hi. We've all done it on holiday. It may be worth asking the GP to prescribe Metformin at your next appointment if high BS continues. It will help a bit and is a very safe drug.

Hi, i was reading up on infections. I have come home with a cold sore and my eczema is quite bad because of it. It could be that. My readings are usually between 6 and 9 so 16-18 is high for me. Even when diagnosed I didn't that high a reading. Thanks for all the advise..

Thanks, :)

In your situation I think I would be making a doc appt for as soon as you can get it (around here, it usually takes several days!) which would give you time to decide if you need to cancel it, or not. Maybe your readings will drop by the time the appt comes round.

My (completely medically unqualified ) opinion is that cold sore + eczema suggests your system/immune system has been quite stressed. Hopefully your doc can tell you if that explains the rise in blood glucose readings.

For me, i find that bread, wheat, and gluten do terrible things to my bg. Far worse than the same g of carbs in potato or non grains. Especially if I havent had any gluten for a while. No idea if that is relevant to you. :)

I am only 18 months into this journey so I am still learning but I agree bread is bad! Docs appointment booked :-)

The only breadlike things I can eat are the Lidl protein rolls - everything else causes massive spikes.
If you are like me then sandwiches every day would result in a huge load on my metabolism and me feeling unwell now that I have got used to the lower levels I have insisted on.
