Ratio advice

Ok so I know you shouldn't start a basal test with high BG. So I didn't test as regularly as I should have because I know this isn't a true representation of my basal perhaps. But anyway:

8.45am 10.1 mmol/l (bed had been 8.7 - cue frustration!)
10.45am 8.7 mmol/l
12.45pm 5.5 mmol/l

Moral of the story? I'm either on too much basal or my pancreas was playing games today. Repeat on Monday!

Very frustrating, looking like you need more baal at night, but, well then be giving you too much in the day. Aaarrggg.

Convenient how the solution to that is have a pump isn't it? Haha!

Next weekend I might do another overnight basal test (assuming I'm at a sensible starting BG!) and see what that says

Potentially too much basal during the morning, need to test the afternoon

Interesting point on today.

I've not taken any insulin except my basal. My lunch was low carb, salad at about 10g so no bolus. Aside from that I've picked at things. Odd few bits here or there.

BG now 4.9. I've ruined that with a Jaffa cake because I need to drive haha

Have you tried a medium acting insulin for overnight?
It can have a bit of a peak some hours later but may suit you to have that rather than a basal with 18~24 hour duration. Then you will have good morning readings but out your system for daytime.

Nope just levemir. Might be an idea to look into them though!

Are you on twice daily levemir?

I'm taking split doses, morning and night, and one thing I was told on DAFNE was space them at least 8 hours apart. I've moved my evening basal from bedtime to around 9:30pm, and seem to have better control of the background that way.

No just once daily. Which is weird because most people on levemir split it. I questioned it ok DAFNE and they said I shouldn't split mine.

Re-did my basal today

7.15 9.8
8.15. 9.8
9.15. 9.7 (looking good right?)
10. 7.8 (oh, weird)
11. 6.8
12.45. 5.9 (meetings ran on. I almost ate my own fist)

I was stationary at my desk 95% of this time and drank 650ml sugar free diluting juice.

Ideas?

I THINK I need the full 2.5u over night, but from 9am I don't. Hence I'm feeding the insulin.

Doesn't explain my afternoon highs yet but I'll get to that!

Basically all I learnt from that test is that I get really hungry without breakfast haha

How about.... you leaving yr bolus to deal with yr eve meal (and adjust it so that yr bg levels are ok to go to bed) and leave yr basal till you go to bed and adjust that so that yr bg is a bit lower than 9 or 7mmol when you get up in the morning and you m
ight not need quite so much bolus at breakfast? Trial and error and testing will tell you what happens. At lunchtime, you should be able to get away with using less bolus in yr ratio which will offset the drop in yr bg levels late afternoon.

Not going to lie, you lay me this time iHs!

I am only trying to help.... that's all.

At the moment you havent got another intermediate acting insulin like Brett suggested as a possibliity,, youve only got Levemir and the bolus so youve either got to have a go at altering things to see what happens or go back to the dsn or dafne and get them to sort it all out for you.

That should have said "lost", not "lay"! I know you're trying to help and I definitely want that help, I just meant that I was confused by what you put

DAFNE no longer exists and my hospital and my doctor saw no issues with my readings when I saw him on Friday, so you guys are the closest I've got to some help because you've all got the benefit of experience :)

Who recommended that you inject the basal and the bolus together at eve meal? and was there a valid reason or was it to make using the insulins a bit more convenient for you to comply with?

It was because I am almost always at home at 6/7 pm. I figured if I did 10pm (the time I got to bed during the week) I will often be out and about at that time and so more likely to forget it. The doctor didn't care when provided it was the same time each day. Does it make a big difference? Assuming it lasts 24 hours (I know for many it doesn't)

Dinner is usually nearer 7 and I take the levemir at 6. I use buttocks for levemir and stomach/thighs for Novorapid because the DSN said to keep the sites separate, I can't remember the reason why
