Regular moderate exercise log

Good evening everyone. Very humid here today and no rain since Thursday so lucky there. No formal exercise today but fitbit tells me I did 21K steps. I did 110 mins lawn mowing so some can be discounted. Was looking to spend some time on the static bike and maybe dumbbells but lawn mowing and dog walking in those conditions plus inadequate sleep made me cautious. @Goonergal, that sounds like a voice of reason there - good girl.

Mr Doofer, the Pedometer, looked mournfully at me with just 3766 steps by tea time.

Most of those steps had been up and down the stepladder dealing with the Hedge of Doom.

However, I complied and got myself up to 10,000 steps so Mr Doofer could come out to wave at me. He won't, unless I've done those 10,000, but he can certainly express his feelings!

12,350 everybody at work ( who sees me walking and losing weight, asks me if I’m feeling better for it, NO, the answer is NO. I probably feel worse than I ever remember feeling on a consistent basis. One day fellow exercisers, one day I’m sure it will suddenly happen. Ever hopeful.

Planning on swimming on Friday.
By which time my sore throat, headache and earache SHOULD be gone.
Ps. Might need antibiotics, first. :( Hate going to my GP's now. Been there constantly for months.
Pain relief is off and on, still. I was over ambitious thinking I now have reliable pain relief... Nope!
I'm happy to report less heavy tummy due to resuming back on metformin.
I'm still hopeful I can make the odd days less painful, more often.
It seems walking doesn't influence my back pain in a positive fashion but I'm happier when I'm out if on a less painful day.

I was reminded last night that if I want to keep active daily I'm on my own other than you guys! Mr ickihun has been in bed for 3 days on the trot.
I'm on my own and chained to 2 kids for next 2 weeks to boot. Argh!!! :banghead:
I have plans which Mr ickihun is hampering due to not wanting to be home alone but not out either. He's getting worse!

Mad fbg of 5.8 and fitbit showed pulse up by 1 so bad start. Hopefully due to heat and humidity yesterday and my not taking enough fluid on board. Today was a case of easy does it and see what happens next. 30 mins nice gentle (approx 65% MHR) static cycle; Dog walk 45 mins 10500 steps.

Chest day Tuesday and I'm aching from the little bike ride and I was weaker than I'd hoped, bench pressed from 60kg x 15 up to 80kg x 4 (bodyweight) in 5kg raises and back down again, 4 sets of flys to 22kg and dumbbell pull overs with the 40kg bell, and that was enough for me. :p

Shoulders today, heavyish side lat raises 25kg 5x10, shoulder press don't know the weight of the stack, bar shrugs120kg 3x12, face pulls, rear delts, then finished off with close grip bench 110kg 3x15, push downs with 55kg on the stack. All in all happy with today's session

This was probably No 1 of my most hated questions during the height of my losing weight/walking era.

!

My daughter has one of those hedges- it tried to eat her husband last year when he was pruning it and fell in. He was there for an hour before anyone realised!

I’m visiting 2 of my daughters in Cornwall atm and have done VERY little exercise, its quite frustrating as I was just getting in the swing of things.

I wonder if helping to lift a Great Dane counts as weight training? My daughter’s poor pooch was recovering from an op under general anaesthetic and couldn’t walk so had to be carried out to the garden periodically for a wee. Took 3 people as she weighs over 11st.

Msk want me to concentrate on swimming rather than painful walking.... for now. Although I need to walk out of necessity. He seems to think swimming will help my walking and strength.
Ive always took swimming for granted too. Asthma is on its best behaviour, lately so I'm happy to swim but not underwater... for now. But my new goal. Irrespective of msk's expectations. I love being free. Like a whale. Ha ha. Rather than my dolphin-like self. Ha ha
I'm very very slow in all actions so far from being a sprat. But I'll settle for dolphin-like to take me forward.

@DJC3 I count carrying the shopping home as weight training so a Great Dane definitely does!

In fact, I was pondering this as I was pootling back along my little road with both a rucksack and Bag For Life, orange with elephant picture on it, full of groceries. Walk to and around supermarkets 7000 steps, bus home (sp I could sit down to check bloods and re-pack so all the heavy stuff was in the rucksack and fridge freezer stuff all packed together to keep cool) 400 steps with heavy bags- this is definitely Good Exercise.

This is a thread where those of us who are not Ironman-ready or triathletes or any other kind of sports superstar can log our more moderate achievements and encourage each other.

I was a very keen sportswoman when I was younger but have really let it slide and these days all I want to do is make my exercise more regular. I have also spoken to/messaged other women on this forum who have similar intentions but we are a bit overawed by our (wonderful, and mostly male) diabetic overachievers. My own exercise habits go in fits and starts, so I plan to log all my moderate boring stuff here in the hope that writing it down will make me do it more often.

First of all: today I walked briskly for approximately 90 minutes!
:)
Excellent well done. I do about the same more or less and keep log, in another way I break it down i.e.
As I have tread at home I take advantage and do the following

10 mins brisk walk before breakie country lane
after breakfast 10 mins fast walk tread 6klm per hour
20 mins walk shopping, general walk
after lunch 10 mins fast walk tread 6klm per hour
20 mins aerobic fast walk
20 mins after dinner evening tread 6klm per hour

Sometimes its more or less depending on committments weather of the day.

I find the 10 min after meals keeps sugar control levels normal range. I have tried doing just one big walk i.e. 1 half hour walk around the bay early morning briskly, resulted the control of sugars were not so good as doing the same time in short bursts, I am sure each individual is different, and do what works for oneself.

Keep the 90 minutes going...

Not an actual log but a question since I always told students to ask if they were not understanding however dumb it seemed.
I am coming to the end of the 6 month testing cycle and looking for lifestyle tweaks for next cycle. Purist Keto with 20 gms carb will not deliver me enough fibre, veg or fruit to make me happy I am looking after myself. My simple solution is to go for 30-40 gms carbs and balance with exercise. My question is about walking.
Only under quite rarefied conditions can I manage the 100 steps per minute often regarded as moderate. Am I right in thinking heart rate is a better guide for effort / intensity and going for a 60-80% max will deliver good exercise and ignore pace unless the medics come up with solutions to whatever is causing the pace problems?
Hope that all make sense and doesn't waste your valuable time :)

I would assume so. Speed is all relative.

Only marginally less paltry 10,200 steps today
@flexi06 That is not paltry it is good, especially if it represents the best you could manage. I can't run as far and fast as Mo Farah or lift weights like some on here. Provided I have pushed myself as far as I can that is good enough for me. You have come from a pretty sedentary lifestyle, from what I can gather, so this is all new and you will feel obliged to do more. Think back a few months - have you done more today? If so relax and feel good.

Hi all.

A 55 minute session of Pilates today - beginners class but seemed a bit more challenging tonight. Also clocked up a modest 11,060 steps during the day.

Not sure whether to stick or twist today with higher fbg after sleeping later than usual. Both often signs of illness on the way but no symptoms other than feeling a bit sleepy. Went with easy dozy. 45 minutes dog walk and 30 minutes static cycle @ about 67% max along with 10K steps. Probably a draw between me and whatever is driving this disruption so I will settle for that.
