Fair enough, that would have been more than a year before I was diagnosed so I missed it.It has been reported before. It was reported during the winter of 2014/15. The Korean manufacturer's report was dated February 2015. There was a very similar thread to this one at that time with problems of one particular batch. I was involved in this and was given loads of pots of strips by Home Health to do some comparison cross checking with my Accu Chek Mobile. (similar to what @Rachox has been doing. ) I have always thought the Codefree was a bit dodgy, requiring too many double and triple tests, no matter which batch. In the end I gave up on it completely. I have continued to recommend it to newbies(along with the Tee2) simply because of the cost but have used my Accu Chek exclusively for the last 2 years .
Same experience as me. I’m now in a bit of a quandary what to recommend to newbies. I’d feel a bit of a hypocrite recommending the Code Free when I’ve abandoned mineIt has been reported before. Moi aussi. C'est la meme chose. It is a quandary since price is important to a Newbie, but then these meters seem to need experienced users to work them. I have always queried this brand and have always regarded it as a standby meter compared to the one I use for taking important decisions on. I think I will start recommending the Tee2 now and the Dual for people interested in ketone measuring.Same experience as me. I’m now in a bit of a quandary what to recommend to newbies. Très bien! Yes I think I may do the same. I think when you’re new to metering you may take all the readings at face value, it’s only as you become more experienced that you notice these irregularities.Moi aussi. C'est la meme chose. You could recommend it still, but with a caveat that the readings may be off a bit because of the strips.I’m now in a bit of a quandary what to recommend to newbies. I’d feel a bit of a hypocrite recommending the Code Free when I’ve abandoned mine
I’ve drafted out a post to use with a comment to that effect. Here’s what I’ll write now:You could recommend it still, but with a caveat that the readings may be off a bit because of the strips.
Do you think we should send a message to Sprit healthcare and see if we can get a discount for bulk buying strips there ?I’ve drafted out a post to use with a comment to that effect. Here’s what I’ll write now:
“My recommendations for meters are as follows. For a meter with cheap strips go for the Tee2 + found here:
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/tee2-plus-blood-glucose-meter/ with the strips found here:
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/tee2-testing-strips/
With more expensive strips is the Caresens Dual which I currently use, this one has the advantage of glucose and ketone testing in one machine, it’s to be found here:
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/caresens-dual-blood-glucose-and-ketone-meter/
With the strips here:
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/caresens-pro-blood-glucose-test-strips/
And to be totally transparent I used to use the SD Code Free which has the cheapest strips available. However I found it to be becoming less and less reliable. Here it is for anyone wanting to give it a go:
http://homehealth-uk.com/product-category/blood-glucose/blood-glucose-monitor/
and here for the extra strips
http://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/sd-codefree-test-strips-to-be-used-only-with-the-sd-monitor/
There are discount codes if you buy in bulk.
5 packs 264086
10 packs 975833
Don’t forget to check the box that you have diabetes so you can buy VAT free. (for all meters and strips)”

No harm in asking.Do you think we should send a message to Sprit healthcare and see if we can get a discount for bulk buying strips there ?
I'll happily contact them if we think it's a good idea? Time of year etc.. although of course they're probably shutting down for Christmas now...
Indeed.. will send off a note this evening..No harm in asking.
Hope you get a win.Indeed.. will send off a note this evening..
Good point, I’ll change it, maybe qualify the whole statement with something to the affect that I’m not connected with any of the companies mentioned?@Rachox
I am just a bit concerned about your phrase “My recommendations for meters are as follows." I hope I'm wrong, but are we allowed to recommend commercial products like meters? The original post said "the most popular meters are". Just a thought, especially if you are posting with a moderator status.

Edit to add: first sentence now reads
“Here’s some info on meters, and to be clear I have no commercial connections with any of the companies mentioned. For a meter with cheap strips....”
Quite simply I got it when it was free as it came with two ketone testing strips and I was curious to see if I’d reached ketosis!Question for Rachox:
Why did you choose the Dual over the Tee2 for your personal use? I'm trying to choose between the two. If any one else has an opinion I would appreciate hearing from you too. Thanks.
The codefree is and it's the cheapest. I get 1 pot per month on prescription.Where can I find this approved list please? I have a Caresens Dual which I’ve never used regularly, it’d be good to see if it’s on the list, it might just tip the balance in it’s favour, when the Code Free isn’t.
Can also confirm weirdly and worryingly high readings since commencing new tub of strips, which have just checked to be of this batch. Ordered five and still four left, unfortunately. Don't know which batch I had before though as discarded packaging.
