Sick bug - doing this all wrong - alternatives please?

We feel that by being in close contact with him, I care for him 2 days a week, when he is sick is making us sick.

Sorry to hear about your grandson HpprKM but if it was a wheat intolerance that was making him ill it would not be contagious. I would get him back to a doctor if he keeps getting sick :)

He almost lives at the Drs and hospital, spent last Friday to Saturday in hospital for about the umpteenth time, all they keep saying is that it is because he is at nursery, yet no one else at the nursery is being ill all the time. We do not suggest that it is contagious, but that actually having to deal with his sickness is making us sick. My daughter went to GPs on Monday with him, all he got from the hospital were antihistamines for his skin, GP said they would think about changing his milk, but she was so tired of it all by yesterday back he went to GP, he is now (at least) booked to see paediatrician, when we do not know yet. Thanks for reply though.

It might be worth trying goats/sheeps milk instead of cows - worked for my highly allergic nephew (skin, asthma etc) but he was a baby 30 years ago.

It certainly won't do any harm if you replace cow with goat/sheep milk + cheese + yoghurt while you're waiting for his hospital visit. I do it for myself on the odd occasions I have thrush-y things or gastro upsets.

I have never met anyone who had problems with sheep/goat products - though I suppose not many people come into contact with it! But it is quite widely available - most big supermarkets stock it - and is apparently closer to human milk and human digestive flora than cows milk products

Let us know how you go on - all of you!

as well as the oxo cube theory i can also recommend ginger biscuit or cake as aparantly the gigner stops the sickness. Isn't it a sad stae of affairs that DR's just press buttons on there pc and come up with a computer aided answer. I still recomend the oxo and pepper theory.

Hey guys, feeling much better and thought that I should write and say a big thank you to my super, duper (is that how you spell it  ) and knowledgeable fellow forum members, some really good suggestions, and Sid Bonkers I pretty much did exactly as you suggested, I did not fancy 'normal food' for almost a week!

Viv, just to say, as you asked - it seems likely that my grandson may have celiac disease, my daughter narrowed all the options down and found that he was fine until he went back to nursery and she was called to collect him as he was sick yet again, he had weetabix, toast and marmite and another wheat product, he has now been wheat free for over a week (so far so good). We checked out the symptoms for celiac disease in babies and he so matched much of it, plus it seems to go hand in hand with lactose intolerance. Of course we hope it is not that, but all just might be a big coincidence and he now booked in to see consultant paediatrian when all, hopefully, will be revealed. But so nice to see him getting back to normal .... he was such a thriving happy child and it does seem he has gone down hill progressively since being introduced to wheat. Thanks so much for your wonderful suggestions and taking the time to write about him, after all this is a diabetic forum!
:D

Not sure if this site may be of use but here it is all the same. It's a UK resource all about Kid's Allergies. Wheat intolerance amongst many others are there........
