Single figures?

Re: Single figures?

There is some sense in what she says although 2 or 3 are single figures and too low. Ideally, between 5 and 7 but the odd 8 or 9 is not too bad.

Re: Single figures?

That's similar to what my meter manual says, not to worry about the occasional reading of 11. It's only when it becomes regular that you should see the doctor. my doctor says not to bother him unless it is repeatedly in the 15s.

However, the fact is that higher levels are going to cause problems later on in life so it is expedient to keep them as low as possible. I think the advice on this site is to aim at keeping the post meal reading below 8.5. I however get a mild sense of panic at over 7.0. The main thing is to find a diet that suits you, one that you can manage easily and feel happy with and also some sort of exercise routine. If you are under 10 whilst you discover all that, then you can start to think about fine tuning your regime to get it lower.

Single figures are certainly better than 2 digit. However, it's thought, by some people, that vascular damage begins at 7 or thereabouts. My personal target is to stay below 6.5 at all times. I VERY RARELY MISS I'm a VLC

PS I don't worry about 3s, although I rarely see them. Non-diabetics run in the 4s and 5s so that's why my trying to keep aound there. HbA1c has been in the 5%s for years. So I must be achieving it much of the time!

Someone who eats very-low-carb - usually 30g carb or less, daily. The diet is also called low carb/high fat because we have to replace the carbohydrate with something. In practice it's not as bad as that sounds - I eat natural unprocessed fats, and I'm aware of how much I eat but don't worry about it.

Like Hanadr, I aim to have non-diabetic blood glucose levels at all times. This means 3.5 - 5.5 before meals/fasting, and less than 8, 2 hours later. My HbA1c is usully in the 5s - this year I'm going to try to join the 4% Club with an HbA1c in the 4s :D .

As an experiment, I've been eating over 100g carb daily since Xmas - 100g/150g daily. My blood glucose levels have risen, though I'm always in the Type 2 target range. I did manage a 4.2 yesterday before eating, which was reassuring  . I've also put on weight  . It will be interesting to see what my HbA1c is this time. :(

Type 2 target range: 4 - 7, fasting/before meals. Less than 8.5, 2 hours after eating.
