Good morning everyone, hope everyone is well. So my journey for a better way of life continues....A few bumps along the way...

For the last 3 weeks it seems that literary everything I eat, I get a completely overwhelming (to the point of dangerous) fatigue. I mean really bad I would not drive. I've tracked the foods and its the same for everything. Yesterday was 3 egg omelette, 2 bacon rashers, courgette and some feta. - Bang sleep, Lunch was Tuna in Water, Cucumber salad...Sleept..Tea was 4 chicken thigh tikka kebab and cabbage salad and whoosh sleep. It's really bad now I've suffered this for years and always attributed Sugar being the main driver in post food fatigue. Now I know it's not sugar as carbs are always under 20g, it was better since changing diets but it's now worse than ever. I've not or have have never been the best at night time sleep (5-6 hours of broken sleep) I've also tried 16/8 and 5/2 to break this cycle but nothing seems to be working. I eat slowly and enjoy my food. I take Mg, K and B12. Drink Apple Cider and lemon and low salt spring water with the meals (not every meal) Brisk walks for 10 mins after eating too. (Not always) I've stopped taking readings now as these were averaging 5-6 range (fasting) It's really getting me and the family down now.
Any thoughts?

I eat roughly 1800 cals per day, work out 4-5 times per week of lifting weights and I have been prioritising Protein 160, carbs 20 and never over the fat range of 110g. It's been going great for 90% of the time, my weight has dropped but is pretty much stuck at 76kg now. ideally I'd like 70-72kg range.

Hi there

Certainly sounds like you’re doing everything right. I’m a chronically poor sleeper too, so know what that’s like.

Is the fatigue only right after you eat, or is it also more general? I’d agree that carbs/sugar are far more likely culprits for the former and what you’re eating looks good from that point of view.

Not really sure what to suggest other than perhaps keeping a food diary incase there’s a pattern and an intolerance is behind it.

What are your energy levels like otherwise? And how are your vitamin d levels? That could be a factor.

I'm another chronically poor sleeper. It does take a while to really adapt to keto- it was about a month for me before I wasn't exhausted although the emotional stress of the diagnosis and my feelings of doom about never eating carbs again ( my favourite food group) also contributed.

Have you upped your salt- it nearly killed my doctor to have to recommend that I increase my salt intake.

Goonergal, Thanks for replying. Fatigue is always after eating, I'm a usual get up and go person...A Lark some would say! Although I do force myself and when I was commuting daily I'd like a 20 min nap on the train on the way home. This helped a little to balance out the previous nights sleep. I feel I've adapted well to general poor sleep. I would say every 5-6 weeks I need a weekend of complete rest which helps me reset a little.
Yes I'm taking Vit D too at 5000iu. I track my foods but I will start taking notes for fatigue levels now. I wonder if I should take Sugar levels again Pre, 1 hours and 2 hours after eating?

VashtiB thanks. The poor sleeping is a silent emotional roller coaster, only us that suffer know what it brings. I'm not shy with the salt that is for sure, but I think I'll add some more, I do love good pink salt....Funny thing is I don't give Carbs a second thought only when I have to explain why I choose not to eat them! I avoid all conversations about Keto etc and just mention my metabolic health has greatly improved. If they ask why then I tell them...LOL

Clutching at straws here, but I assume you've had your thyroid levels checked?

Also consider Sleep Apnea particularly if you are a snorer.

Hi Ellie, I was actually thinking about this.....I can't see it in my bloods taken in May. Got the usual Type 2 broad range testing, I do wonder....Think I'll get to the Drs about this....Painful getting past the reception triage! Thanks
Anything in the low carb/keto range of foods to help supplement?

Do you also take vitamin k2 with the d3, and have you had a blood test to check your levels? That’s a decent dose though (I take the same). Sounds like we’re similar - I’m always up at the crack of dawn too! Until a few months ago, always had plenty of energy despite the poor sleep. My fatigue has been put down to long Covid, so I’d say it’s worth checking there’s no underlying cause and yes, checking your BG levels might help identify any patterns. Maybe even get the 2 week free Libre 2 trial to really see what’s going on?

Sometimes if my blood sugar falls too low I can't keep my eyes open and just want to sleep , I now use this as a warning sign that i'me going hypo !

Have you spoken to your doctor about this?

Hi @Worthingbloy

A good call, by others to get checked out properly.

Advise I never took, :bag:

Have to say that level of fatigue, got me for a good while after DX.

I'd liken it to that sleepy, post Xmas meal, full bellied and ready to drop off.

And it was after I'd changed my diet, too
Meat Veg, no processed foods.

It did ease, but while it has lessened it hasn't gone away full

Now I see it as more losing focus.
As in concentration.

so most days early on,. If I felt that I just didn't ride.

What little I get now ( almost 3 years since DX)
I can give myself a good mental shake, (almost like shaking off that tiredness when you first wake and need to get your skates on,) if riding motorbike/scooter, and all is good.

Never did find out what caused it.
Luckily I sleep well, more a night owl then an early bird. If that makes any difference

Vit D3 with K2
B12....and yes, I too upped my salt intake.
The most awful cramps until I did that and bought magnesium spray

A bit of a hobby horse, BUT if you haven't had it done already, ask for your B12 to be tested
Not the most accurate test, I have read, but still a guide to your levels.

Far easier to know and supplement, then ignore and miss the chance.

Good luck finding a reason or a way forward that works for you. :)

Goonergal, yes a K2 combined, sorry to hear Covid has contributed to this issue. Seems every Dr now is putting things against C19. I think I'll do the BS levels at 1,2 hours etc as Bulkbiker suggested too. If this is unclear I'll look at the Libre. I will try the Drs for a blood tests as others have mentioned. Hopefully it wont be too much hassle. It's been going on longer enough now and is affecting the family.
