T1d has me for sure. On the edge of giving up. Forget to do injections, don't eat properly. I just want to be free from this illness. I don't like a fixed schedule. T1d isn't for me. Isn't for anyone.

Hi Loulou

T1 doesn't haveto be a fixed eating or doing anything..

The only thing that is really fixed is to test and inject.. But thst is literally minutes in a day..

If you get your levels settled then routine isn't so important.

Eg. I eat once a day... If I go out on a Sunday then I may eat at a different time or additional meal but my life isn't fixed around diabetes. If you get your basal levels right then the flexibility to do anything is there..

Please don't give up.. Can we help to make things easier for you?

Hi loulou,

I'm so sorry that you're having such a ghastly time. Being a diabetic can be such hard work, even more so when you feel low & overwhelmed. @donnellysdogs has given you some good advice & is looking to help. Why don't you reach out to the Type 1's on this forum & let them help you too. I've no doubt many will have felt how you do now & would be happy to advise you & help you break this destructive cycle. You have to try loulou...it's no good ignoring your disease. It'll still be there whether you want it to be or not I'm afraid. Good luck & best wishes to you sweetheart.

Thanks a lot for the advise. I here to try and fix this cycle. I hope this gets better but isn't going to happen over night. Thanks a lot

Hey there Lou, sorry to hear you feel like this, it can be overwhelming if you let it. Firstly if your not eating well that's going to affect your energy levels so try and get back to eating regularly ? Are you worried about taking insulin ? Having diabetes doesn't have to a fixed routine, it has to work around you and your lifestyle, if I'm correct in thinking you are newly diagnosed ? All the information can overwhelm you to start with but it will get easier in time. I was diagnosed 3 years ago and the first year was hard trying to adjust, I felt like it was taking over my life. In time I've managed to acquire the knowledge I need to cope which has enabled me to put D into my back pocket and get on with life. Can you DSN help ? If you can use your team, tell them how you are feeling too they are there to support you mentally as well as physically, although it may not feel like it, they will be well aware of the mental effort required to cope with this. Also just message me if you need to, don't feel you have to fight this on your own, big hug ;)

Loulou, DD is right. Once you get your basal insulin right, you don't have to have a tight routine. I'm like you, no routine at all, but I have my diabetes under good control these days and it's so good for my mood. If you search these boards for "basal testing", you will find some links that show you how to do it. You won't regret it. You could feel much better in just a few days.

Hey sorry that was me making an assumption.. probably because you are a newbie here ;)

Still, you can talk to your diabetes team about how you are feeling, they are there to support you. How do you cope on a day to day basis ? are you just feeling overwhelmed ? What bits get to you the most ?

I'm sure you understand that it has be managed properly, it's dealing with it and getting back to living that's the important part I think for you.

I've just tested and i'm up at 14.8, I ate my daughter's pancakes this morning instead of my protein pancakes which I normally only take about 3 units of QA for, it's a pain having to take more insulin to try and get back to a 'normal range' but just a blip.. doh !! Here for a chat if you need one x
