Just in case you end up having a similar experience with your doctors and diabetic counsellors, you're not alone.

"I had my 6 monthly diabetes check-up last Wednesday. The diabetes consultant was really happy with all of my figures on cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, weight (I’ve lost another 4 kg since February without really trying), kidney and liver function are excellent – in fact he was really impressed and asked me what I was doing to get these improvements.

Simple, I said, I’ve stopped eating wheat in all its forms and grains in general, I avoid rice and all potato products. I eat animal fat and the only oil that I use is extra virgin olive oil. Breakfast is typically a one-egg omelette and with a small amount of bacon, smoked salmon or Parma ham. I have spinach or other leafy greens and tomatoes. Lunch is often not taken as I do not feel hungry until 6.00 pm when I have my evening meal. Another small portion of meat and plenty of veggies. The only fruit that I have are a few blueberries, wild strawberries (when they are available) and raspberries – and I mean a few.

I sleep better than ever, don’t feel tired and have lost weight. I really ought to exercise though, that is the only flaw in my regime.

“No, you MUST eat some carbohydrates” the doctor said.

“I do, I told you, I eat plenty of vegetables.” I said.

“No, no, starchy carbohydrates, you NEED them”

AKA "You're improving your health and that of your baby... Stop Doing That!"

Seriously, though, well done on the results. Great show.

So sad that this was from 2012 and despite science confirming low carb/zero really beneficial to diabetics nothing has advanced much!!!

Sadly another case of us having to be part of an 'underground movement' in what we are doing to help our selves.

i likened it to a diabetic spring...the time when we can stop going guerilla and once more lay down our arms and have an HONEST debate with those we SHOULD be able to trust with our health.

That's not to say ALL doctors are behind the times, see stockport gp for one, but enough, to put many off being honest,
sadly.

Long live the revolution.:)

Why most of doctor require to eat carbs?

i'd say it's what they have been taught...high csarb, low fat.

and as they have to know a shed load of stuff about many illnesses and conditions,
it's hard for them to stay up to date.

for us it's a 24 hr job those first months finding information.
so we have practically done a thesis and a degree course, and they get a 4 hour refresher, if that.
so i would say we ARE more aware of current thinking then they are,

So, i always take heed of other information re T2D,

as in re-examine the information given about it from doctors and THEN go online and see if it matches others expectations or experience.

That way you won't (hopefully ) be railroaded into taking any action that MIGHT be against your best interests.
(Eatwell, any one..:hilarious: ) and you can make informed decisions that are best for YOU.

hth's.

good luck on your journey.

I have been told, by a DSN, that the insistence on eating carbs with every meal is from the training for teaching T1's, and there was little or no training for a diet for T2's so they just gave the same advice, with no thought as to any possible differences in treatment, as it was so rarely seen until about a decade or two ago.

Interesting thought.

Yes, I've often wondered whether the "eat carbs" information has been a one diet fits all diabetics thing.

But apart from DN pointing me to the Eat Well Plate when I was diagnosed I've been lucky enough to have a GP, and now also my DN too after seeing my results, who are perfectly happy with my low carbing efforts.
