Just want a moan lol

I was back at the docs this morning to get the result of my antibody test which were done 2 weeks ago today, the results are still not in. I was really worried and stressed yesterday about these results as the GP did not know which type I have (and he's a specialist in my city) he says I fall between type 1 and type 2 and that he only sees cases like mine maybe once a year (bloody typical lol).

I am currently on metformin 850mg twice a day, got a few side effects from them like sore stomach, severe diahorrea (which thankfully has past) my legs feel very heavy.

I now have to make an appt to go back in another 2 weeks which means I will have gone a month before I get the correct diagnosis and on the correct levels of medication I need. I the doc explained that it is a specialist test and they may wait for a certain amount of bloods in until they run the test but it just means more worry and stress. I know there are worse things out there to be diagnosed with and it's a death sentence but if one more person tells me this I am going to scream lol.

Rude people !
I know it can be very frustrating but to be honest, a 1 month wait is not bad ! There are many on this forum who don't even get a chance of having the antibody test ! The fact is, you've been told you've got diabetes. It's not a death sentence if you manage it. If you turn out to be T1, T2 or inbetween, it doesn't really matter. Your treatment will be the same. I agree, it's nice to know but nothing will really change when the results come in. Your docs will treat the signs/glucose levels, not the name. Good luck though and let us know how you get on. !

Hi. I hope your results appear soon. As mo says, many of us never have the GAD test and the GP guesses/assumes T2. I'm surprised the doc says he sees so few 'T1.5s'. If you read the forum over many months you can see that it is far more common than the GPs realise. My nephew was diagnosed as Late onset T1 (LADA) at age 21 in A&E. If diagnosed with GAD anti-bodies the GP may increase the tablet types and eventually move you to insulin. Don't worry about insulin; it's so easy these days and gives you the freedom to eat fairly freely which you can't when just on tablets and needing to low-carb all the time. BTW don't put up with the side effects of Metformin. If you are not on the SR (Slow Release) version do ask the doc as it is much kinder. As mo says the doc will treat you according to your HBa1C blood test result (see NICE Diabetes Pathways document online)

Come here with an open mind, read the posts. If you don’t agree with something then ignore it or ask constructive questions. Do not disparage because it is not your opinion or way of doing things. If you find an error then correct it constructively. State your source for the correction so there is no doubt about it.
