suggested to rename type 2 diabetes to lipodiabetes

We have divided diabetes into two main categories (and others) so I was thinking what ties us together and it is because we all get diagnosed with the same thing. Sugar in the blood. So the diagnosis groups us together.

I looked up the etymology of diabetes to see if that helped and it doesn't really but it is amusing. Here is a link.

I used to be a fatty, diagnosed prediabetic and diabetic. But I'm not.
I have a proper name for my diagnosis!:)

But I still pee a lot:eek::rolleyes:

suggested to rename type 2 diabetes to lipodiabetes, what ??

If there were a change coming in the future, then ...............................
Type 1 auto-immune, simples :D

How about FLAS diabetes? (Fat, lazy and stupid) ?

At least there's one benefit to that name change zand. Most health care professionals wouldn't need to make any change at all in their attitude towards us to reflect the new definition. :p

Hi . Im sure this has been put on to see the reaction it gets . Does it real mater what you call it it will nof change anything . A name is only a name so sho cares

The current differentiation between type 1 and type 2 diabetes makes them look similar in scope to the patient. And misguide him to thinking that type 2 is
only a blood glucose problem, downplaying the fact that it is a manifestation of an excessive fat origin.
Renaming it to Lipodiabetes brings the patient to a better understanding of his condition.

I think you might be on your own with that opinion. I have always been well aware of the difference between type I and type II and do not consider them to be similar in scope. As a type II I consider elevated blood glucose to be a symptom of my diabetes not the problem. I have a pancreas that produces normal amounts of insulin as shown by a c-peptide test therefore insulin resistance is the problem. That could be as a result of several things. Arguably excessive fat can be caused by excessive insulin being made by the pancreas to overcome insulin resistance or high carb consumption.

It's a lot more complicated than you think, IMHO.

Me neither. In many cases the excess fat is because of insulin resistance (ie pre diabetes causes obesity).

Edit: and surely someone who is fat realises they are fat? There's usually plenty of people willing to inform me of that fact. Not so many can tell me what to do about it though.

I often find, (or actually that is now found), I could tell people what to do after they called me fat. Depending on how it was received, sometimes they did, sometimes it was a little bit messy.
But on reflection, I have to admit, and probably apologise to (some of them), eating less would have helped.
Bars, meals, happy days. :)

And the full name is diabetes mellitus, and mellitus is derived from the Latin word for honey or sweet, so I'd much prefer to be more accurately known as a diabetic sweetie rather than a diabetic fatty....:D

Robbity

PS Have we ever had a thread suggesting offensive re-naming of type 1 duiabetes?

It may have been auto immune triggered. However, the "gearbox" now is a manual transmission?

I'm type 1- I'd like to be known as a Sparkly diabetic. I will consider it offensive if you don't use a capital letter for Sparkly actually.

I think Robbity is deffo a Diabetic sweetie. Though your new official classification is Unicorn diabetic. You know one that has rainbows in the background.
What do you reckon? New labels - misconceptions sorted.

I would be concerned if I was catigorised as "Sparkly" (note the capital S.) that it could cause confusion with Cillit Bang disease..or the misunderstood Shake & Vac??

I've just inhaled my cup if tea!
Maybe there could be subcategories (not based on who has it worse) but who is the nicest/sweetest/kindest?
Unfortunately based on that I'd be a Sparkly b@@@h
