Im going to say that last night i felt dizzy weak, depressed tired :(UNTIL I had a box of sultanas !!!:woot::playful:

20 minutes later i was happy and energised i walked to the gym at 1am and had a workout on the treadmill !!!
Happy as larry ! Boring diet of veggies was really boring me,

I really am starting to get sick of this diabetes diet,i dont feel ,my normal self i feel tired and dizzy,i prefer my other diet that actually had sugar in it so i felt happy and energised !

This diet i have been on the last week or so no bread , no pasta, no choc bars ,probaly no sultanas , just gets me tired irritable lazy ,im thinking screw it im going back to my normal diet every now and again

If you are not joking then say a fond farewell to your feet and your eyesight. Remember to have a plentiful supply of good books for when you end up on dialysis and pray that you do not have a heart attack before you come to your senses.

Agreed.

Hi @ Australiadiabetic2,
Sultanas have a GI of about 60 and GL of 26 where GI less than 50 with GL less than 10 is preferable. (mendosa.com)
The saving grace maybe that the seeds included with the sultanas might slow down absorption of the sugar from the sultanas.
Not sure about how that equates to feeling good and going to the gym but the exercise is said to be boost insulin sensitivity !!

Remember that the Glycaemic Index was equated/tested on young, fit non Diabetic people.
As people with Type 2 Diabetes our ability to metabolise carbs efficiently is sorely tested.

I suggest either buying or downloading a book on carbs and cals (available from Amazon) to identify carbs, portion sizes and hidden carbs. You dont sound like you have got to grips with what are carbs, and what they do to a type 2 diabetic.

From what you have indicated on other threads, your diet is both low carb and low fat. This is unsustainable and you will feel weak and ill on it.

Have a look on here: https://www.dietdoctor.com/

Saltanas are dried grapes, a handful of saltanas equates to a whole bunch of grapes and grapes are very high sugar.

ISTR that all dried fruit is higher in sugar than the natural fruit. Anything containing concentrated sugar is a bad idea for Type 2's.

If you were eating loads of bananas, then your body may be reacting to getting less. Sultanas may be replacing some of the nutrients you're reduced.

I think you have to do what feels right for you, in terms of diet, obviously within the framework of controlling your blood glucose levels.

Harsh perhaps, but very true. Ignorance is not a virtue

Its not easy you know not eating bananas and toast and chocolate

Why not? Any symptoms are easily managed and when you come out the end of the adaptation process as a fat burner instead of a sugar burner, there are many metabolic and health benefits.

I know it's not easy missing out on foods you love, I was diagnosed with T2 9 years ago.

I learned to love different foods, and they contain fats, which stop me having the kinds of symptoms you are having. People have explained this over and over. Personally I won't repeat myself more than once or twice. A person is either willing to learn or they aren't.

If you decide you want to learn how to choose foods that make you feel good, while reducing your BGs, let me know and I'll be more than happy to help.

You can eat chocolate, as long as it is chocolate and not half carbs and a slight nod in the direction of a coco bean.
Diabetes type two is easily the most powerful reason not to eat what the supermarkets want to sell - eating meat and fish and shellfish, eggs, cheese, low carb veges and a small amount of low carb fruits can - if you are lucky, put your Hba1c and everyday blood glucose back into the normal ranges and give you energy - not the fleeting sugar rush sort of energy but the always available keeping going stamina for the long run or the all day project.

A sultana is a dried red grape with all the sugar of the grape but less water. Weight for weight - red grapes are about 17gm/100gm but sultanas are are a whopping 69.4gm/100gm.

Our two boys discovered that you can fit two raisin snack pack boxes like in the pix into a car cassette player (sans tape) at a early age.

They were not happy after they were grounded for a period of time.

Holy cow! That is a lot of carbs. I guess I could weigh 10g of sultanas and have them after a meal, but I wouldn't want to because once I start doing LCHF properly like I am now, I don't feel like eating anything that sweet. Sultanas might make a good hypo treatment though, lol.
