Hi I am type 2 and my HBA1C is currently good 5.6. I am moving away from sugar in the diet and want to use Grenade® Ration Pack - 30 Day Supply and USN diet fuel. Do you think this would be ok? I have struggled for a long time with weight and am making big changes to try and get it off. The usn is for a quick breakfast but I do worry it is a liquid and fast absorption.

Any advice please.

Be careful with the marketing hype as the majority of products in the gym world are a waste of money and don't work in my experience.

I have been using Protein Whey most of this year, several times per day with excellent results. Only recently started testing BG and I've not experienced any issues with spiking as my choice contains less than 1g of carbs and 1g of fat per serving.

The USN diet fuel appears to be only 45% protein, so I wouldn't personnel use this product. I always look for +80% protein version of Whey per serving, ideally approx. 26g from 30g as an example.

I usually go for the isolate version and avoid blends or fillers , but that's me as I want only a few ingredients on the product label and no fat/carbs. Prefer the natural fats/carbs from real food.

Protein can be broken down and turned into glucose, in the absence of other 'fuels' - I'd be concerned about setting that going, just in case it resulted in the breakdown of more essential proteins such as heart muscle.
I find low carb as laid out by Dr Atkins most efficient in losing weight. I have lost 10lb in under a month as I went back to low carb as soon as I was diagnosed. If you want to have protein perhaps cooking something the previous evening would make something handy to eat for breakfast. I regularly have meat cut from a joint, though also kippers or other smoked fish for my first meal of the day.

Do you have Diabetes? Do you have Prediabetes? How many carbs can you handle at once? How many carbs does a serving have? How many servings will you be having? Is it high sodium? Am I allergic to any of the ingredients? Those are the questions I would be asking myself before taking this supplement. Why are you not eating real food for breakfast?

Have a look at the Newcastle Diet. Many on here have done it, and found things like Tesco's diet shakes have been fine. I did it previously, using just the shakes, and am now trimming a bit of weight off again pre christmas, using the shakes, their diet bars, and real food (not low carb) very successfully.

This is a very personal decision as you know your body, psychology and what does or does not affect your BG better than anyone. :) If you think shakes will work for you, go for it.

I'm 64 and have been on every diet known to man since my teens, with varying degrees of success . The only common thread is that I lost weight every time but gained it back, plus some, when I started to eat 'normally' again. For that reason, I've chosen LCHF as a permanent lifestyle. Works for me, doesn't for everyone. Your basic idea of dropping sugar from your diet is a terrific one, though, no matter which way you do it. Excellent move and best of luck! :D
