I feel like crying. Out of joy for having some compadres. I've been feeling so isolated and blamming myself for doing something wrong.
Like you say, loads lose on lchf, just not me. I started gaining!
My opinion is that the HF isn't that important to us all unless you want to replace the calories lost by cutting carbs. If you consider I used to eat about 1800 calories a day on a low fat diet, 500 calories a day less than my Basic Metabolic Rate (BMR) so not even allowing for exercise. By removing bread/past/rice/potato I took another 600 calories off my daily intake and lost quite a bit before it just stopped. My GP said I wasn't eating enough and suggested I ate more, perhaps more dairy and red meat (don't get told that very often), so I did and now I'm 15kgs heavier. Although I have noticed that the fluid retention caused by using soluble cocodomol has increased and together with the lymphodema, my legs look like elephants legs, so there's something else going on.
If you look at the Kreb cycle which I'm not going to pretend I understand, a lot goes on between eating and providing energy for the muscles or storing excess energy as fat. I have had several blood and urine tests, self financed, which have indicated shortages of CoQ10, Vitamin D, Vitamin B and several other bits and pieces (can't remember what, can't find report now either), so I'm trying to get those right before really panicking.
The unfortunate thing is that GPs aren't able to help in finding out why our metabolisms are knackered and that's the expression my GP actually used, "knackered", no reason why, just knackered, so I'm on my own.
Interestingly, I'm embarking on a series of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) as it's supposed to improve (decrease) insulin resistance and muscle development. I'm now reading that HBOT affects (decreases) weight in mice so who knows, it would be a good side effect to decreased insulin resistance. It's very much an experiment, although Wycombe Wanderers football team use HBOT to increase their level of training.
